Purpose

 

Reporting to the Head of U.S Governance & Transformation, the Director, U.S Transformation, and Governance is responsible for supporting the execution of the U.S. strategic business and governance change priorities, supporting business growth, and increasing operational effectiveness.

 

This role is crucial in supporting the “change the bank” efforts, working in collaboration with functional and business lines to achieve sustainable solutions for future growth. In supporting the Head of the U.S. Governance & Business Transformation, the Director will help to create and execute on the roadmap for the ‘bank of the future,’ ensuring we scale and grow in line with the bank’s risk appetite framework, the bank’s governance framework, and regulatory requirements. Most notably, this role must be forward looking and work closely with all business lines, not just GBM. The initial scope of this role will focus on preparing the bank for becoming Category III financial institution, including but not limited to, assisting in: the definition defining and implementation of an Operational Resilience plan, the development of Resolution Planning in the region, and the execution and reporting on a centralized view of all remediation efforts. Overall, this role is crucial in positioning the U.S. for future growth.


What You’ll Do   


U.S. Business Transformation (i.e., Change the Bank)

 

  • Drives strategy and execution of critical U.S. Growth, transformation and remediation initiatives, including the design and execution of roadmap for CAT II & CAT III in the region,
  • Supports development of the U.S. Operational Resilience plan and U.S. Resolution Planning.
  • Assists in ongoing operational and regulatory remediation, including Cyber / IT Risk Management.
  • Assists in implementation of key businesses, including: Mortgage Capital Markets, U.S. cash management, securitization and leverage finance
  • Collaborates with functional teams across the Bank to accomplish “change the bank” efforts, including future growth across U.S. cash management, wealth, and commercial
  • Acts as central point of contact and coordination for strategic initiatives, operating as a Business Analyst for projects that involve working with Technology and Data
  • Partners closely with global technology and data teams as an SME, ensuring key business requirements are understood, implemented and reported
  • Manage projects from inception through implementation including scoping, identifying stakeholders, business analysis, establishing objectives, drafting project plans, and supporting the daily execution

 

Governance

 

  • Critically assesses existing processes, identifies efficiencies, and operationalizes enhancements.
  • Evolve and enhance current operating model within the bank for the management of Sales and Trading obligations and their related technical requirements.
  • Act as subject matter expert for 1st/2nd line and functional partners regarding regulatory change and guidance, analyzing and refining processes, workflows, communications and policies (e.g., RCSA, NIRA, ORE, Issues Management etc.)
  • Interface with domestic and global regulators, internal audit, and other functions as Scotia SME who can speak to our processes and platforms with authority. Provide a central point of coordination for corresponding examinations and inquiries.
  • Provide input and first line SME into development of the firm’s desk procedures, WSPs and other relevant processes
  • Critically assesses and transforms U.S. committee governance structure, including draft and socialization of revised committee organizational structure, charters, mandates, etc.

 

Tracking & Reporting

 

  • Supports Head of U.S. Governance & Transformation in preparation for U.S. Executive Committee, U.S. Board, and other governance forums
  • Supports Head of U.S Governance & Transformation in coordination across key pillars of remit, managing the overall program portfolio
  • Enhances and leads tracking and reporting of U.S. Remediation efforts and growth strategy
  • Implements U.S. transformation reporting and governance structure to support; U.S. ExCo and U.S. Board, considering compliance with key U.S. regulations

What You’ll Bring 

 

  • 5+ years of transformation and governance experience in a highly matrixed organization
  • Experience in collaborating across functions and regions and running multi-year remediation or strategic efforts
  • Prior experience with U.S. regulators
