Purpose

The incumbent will have responsibility for planning, execution and reporting of audits with respect to credit risk management of the US portfolios including the US Loan Review Program, along with the Vice President, Credit Risk Audit and the Chief Auditor, US Audit.  The candidate will lead the U.S. Loan Review team working with the rest of the Credit Risk Audit team that audits and/or reviews the Bank’s non-retail loans and credit risk management processes.

 

The successful candidate will be required to have extensive knowledge of the design and operation of internal controls related to the management of non-retail credit risk / loan review. In addition, the candidate is required to have strong knowledge of the US regulatory environment and emerging risks.  Knowledge of capital markets products and associated risks as well as operational processes and controls supporting wholesale businesses will be an asset. The incumbent should be proficient at applying risk-based auditing standards, practices, techniques, processes and methodologies to the performance and review of audits.

 

Accountabilities

  • Identify systemic and emerging issues and strategic changes planned/undertaken by the auditees that will impact the audit plan, including review of business/strategic plans, review and update the Risk Assessment database for entities assigned, attend periodic meetings with key management officers to understand changes and new business initiatives and review key performance indicators;
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Leads and participates in audits of the credit risk management processes in Banking, Global Risk Management, Operations and other control and support functions supporting the corporate banking business, with a particular focus on the audits covering US credit risk management processes. Responsible for executing the US Loan Review Program in line with the US Loan Review Policy and Procedures. Writes and presents audit and loan review reports to senior management, executive committees and boards of directors.
  • Assists the Chief Auditor, US Audit in executing the US Audit plan and assessing the effectiveness of controls.
  • Acts as a change agent to assess, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of actions taken to address audit and regulatory issues relating to credit risk management processes.
  • Participates and/or reports to US Risk Management Committees along with the Chief Auditor, US Audit and/or the Vice President, Credit Risk Audit.
  • Ensure that department standards are met on all assignments.
  • Continuously assessing the resourcing needs in order to adequately fulfill the US Loan Review Mandate and Policy.
  • Provide coaching and development to other Credit Risk Audit staff, particularly in the areas of US Loan Review Requirements.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Work with Chief Auditor and Risk Audit Director to enhance holistic credit risk audit coverage.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Post graduate business degree, accounting designation and/or CFA
  • 7-10 years of credit risk management experience
  • Strong knowledge of US regulatory environment and emerging risks
  • Proficient in applying risk based auditing standards, techniques and methodologies
  • Knowledge of capital markets products, associated risks and supporting operational controls is an asset
  • Knowledge of Oil and Gas industry is a strong asset
  • Strong project management, planning and organizational skills
