Purpose: Scotiabank is seeking mid-level ABS trader for its structured credit group.  Under the direction of the head of securitized products trading, this trader will be responsible for building the ABS trading franchise – with a focus on Scotia-originated ABS transactions.  Well-qualified candidates should have a successful track record of trading ABS bonds across the credit and duration Spectrum.  Substantial interaction with clients is expected and this candidate should be comfortable doing this.  This candidate should be able to operate within existing risk limits, while generating secondary trading revenues from market making ABS products with institutional investors.  Existing relationships with ABS issuers is a plus.

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Making markets in ABS securities
  • Facilitating engagement with customers directly and with salesforce and banking
  • Liaising with banking and syndicate on new issue opportunities/color
  • Monthly/daily marks for customers as needed
  • Potential travel/speaking at various industry conferences
  • Representing the securitized products business at Scotia and supporting its growth
  • Developing junior resources as needed
  • Positioning and managing risk within limits framework as it evolves

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • Bachelor's degree (master's degree a plus but not necessary)
  • Working knowledge of transaction structures
  • Strong risk management background
  • Track record of profitable trading history
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with ABS trading
  • Working knowledge and some experience in ABS trading
  • Effective communication skills are a must.
  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • Client focused mindset - strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage priorities
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Team player
  • Adherence to all controls processes and procedures
  • Series 7 and 63
