Purpose

Drive execution of primarily international oil and gas-related projects from the Houston office. Provide technical and strategic advice to public and private corporations, national oil companies, financial sponsors and other private capital providers who transact and/or are interested in energy industries while ensuring compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Associate Director – Reservoir Engineering, is responsible for technical evaluations of clients’ oil & gas assets, leading the execution of mandates and the development of new business activities.


 

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for and leads reservoir engineering evaluation of oil and gas assets for primarily international assignments, including but not limited to reserve estimation, type curve creation, base and upside evaluation, risk assessment, facility constraints and requirements, creating plan of development, developing economic assumptions, and running single-well and project level economics – as well as review of marketing materials including confidential information memorandum, management presentations, data rooms, pitch books. 
  • Lead the reservoir engineering and associated technical execution of both buyside and sell side pitches / mandates. 
    Review any data room materials for completeness and accuracy, contribute to data room preparation as needed.
  • Marketing of oil and gas assets to potential buyers as required, including presentation of technical materials to clients, including RFPs, pitches, and management presentations.
  • Attending internal and external project kick-off meetings while supporting the generation of new business ideas for clients. 
  • Technical-level relationship management for transaction structuring and execution, as well as general technical and corporate finance activities (e.g., technical analysis, financial modeling analysis and review, valuations, advisory).
  • Support business development and idea generation activities alongside senior team members, including playing an active role in A&D screening activities.
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. 
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Liaise with Data Systems Manager to ensure execution of internal support functions including Graphics, IT and vendor / third party service
  • Oversees engineering execution process alongside peers and juniors, including full review of technical analyses, marketing materials, maintain timelines and ensures completion of mandates
  • Work alongside Corporate Finance counterparts to ensure seamless delivery of technical work product for oil and gas valuation exercises
  • Generating strategic and technical ideas for key clients, overseeing and contributing in the writing in pitch materials to originate new mandates
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance, regulatory and risk management on target
  • FINRA securities license (SIE, Series 79, and 63)

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • University graduate, preferably with a petroleum specialty, or equivalent combination with work experience 
  • >15 years of Reservoir Engineering and Reserves-level experience in the oil and gas industry preferably in both international and domestic regions
  • Preference for candidates with prior A&D evaluation experience 
  • Broad technical of oil and gas experience (reservoir types, recovery techniques and technological advances) 
  • Strong understanding of the energy industry including both offshore and onshore assets, conventional/unconventional reservoirs, contracts, agreements, economic evaluations and fiscal regimes
  • Strong communication and cross-cultural skills
