Contributes to the overall success of the U.S. Legal Department with responsibility for supporting financial services litigations, internal and government investigations, and providing legal advice, services and counsel on litigation-related matters affecting the Bank's U.S. Global Banking & Markets business.

 

 

 

Is this role right for you? You will be responsible for:

 

 

  • Support litigations, such as securities class actions and contract disputes, by developing and implementing specific case and overall litigation strategy in collaboration with senior members of in-house litigation team and management, and by supervising, reviewing, commenting on, and evaluating outside counsel's work product.
  • Assist with internal and government investigations, including through the coordination of data collection, document review and interviews and document productions, with senior litigation team and outside counsel.
  • Coordinate internal document preservation and collection, including electronic discovery, in conjunction with preservation and e-discovery teams and other members of the litigation team.
  • Manage responses to third-party subpoenas and other requests for information.
  • Serve as a resource to other members of the U.S. Legal Group to provide litigation perspective and risk assessments.
  • Remain up to date on regulatory and court decisions and recommend policy modifications based on changes in the law.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Champion a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vision/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

 


Do you have the skills you need to succeed? We'd love to work with you, if you have:
 

 

  • Law Degree/Juris Doctorate-required; Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction
  • Experience with financial services litigation matters
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a litigator in a corporate law department and/or leading law firm
  • Experience preparing legal memoranda and pleadings
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills required
