Purpose
The Associate Director will liaise directly with US Financial Institutions - Bank clients, managing global relationships. Coverage will include both US domiciled banks, as well as the local representatives of international banks who operate in North America. The role works closely with the respective Directors and Managing Directors, as well as the junior members of the team to prospect new, and manage, existing clients in the United States. The Associate Director will be responsible for creating client briefings, pitchbooks, presentations, performing due diligence, monitoring compliance and industry trends, evaluating new credit requests and account management, including supervising annual reviews. Furthermore, the candidate will liaise across other departments and products, including Global Transaction Banking, Trade Finance, Derivatives, and/or Foreign Exchange, Structured Solutions, and Debt Capital Markets, gaining knowledge and delivering to clients the various products that Scotiabank offers.
What You’ll Do
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Support the career development and mentorship of the team’s Analysts and Associates.
- Evaluate and analyze the financial needs of Financial Institutions - Bank clients.
- Work closely with the Bank's specialized product groups (Global Transaction Banking, Capital Markets, etc.) to tailor products to clients and promote effective marketing and delivery of these products to customers and prospects.
- Liaise with internal Execution teams on preparation of credit presentations and with Global Risk Management on credit adjudication.
- Expand on sector/industry and Bank product knowledge to identify trends and cross-selling opportunities within the sector.
- Conduct strategic planning of the business to identify sector opportunities and focus areas. Collaborate internally to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on business strategy.
- Prepare client briefings, marketing materials and presentations for client pitches and deal execution efforts.
- Travel regularly to manage client relationships and prospect new accounts across the US.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of Corporate Banking experience, ideally covering Banks and/or other relevant experience
- Possess a strong professional network in the Financial Institutions industry, with a focus on the Banks sector preferred
- MBA, CFA or other relevant professional designation is preferred
- Strong understanding of financial markets, and sector/product knowledge
- Proven business development and relationship management skills
- Strong structuring, credit, and financial analysis skills
- The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work
- The ability to excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines
- High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
- Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations
- Ability to manage a portfolio of accounts in an entrepreneurial fashion
- Independent thinker and proven ability to make decisions
- Great attitude and the ability to perform effectively in a team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A high-level of attention to detail, energy, and a keen desire to learn new concepts
- Obtain and maintain required FINRA registration and licenses including SIE, Series 79 and Series 6.
