Purpose
Leads and oversees Credit Department / Scotiatrust Bahamas in Nassau, The Bahamas ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Contributes to the profitable development of Scotiatrust Credit business.
- Ensures the accurate communication of the terms and conditions of an authorization and the effective and timely implementation of same.
- Ensures the ongoing quality of the assigned credit portfolio through control and administration of the specific conditions and reporting requirements are specified in individual authorizations are adhered to.
- Provides quality service.
- Provides leadership to the team on a day-to-day basis by providing expert direction on the servicing of assigned accounts.
- Maintains systems and procedures.
- Contributes to the effective operation and compliance of the team.
- Maintains strict adherence to the Bank’s security and control procedures.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
- Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education
- University degree in Banking or Finance is preferable and 5-10 years of equivalent industry experience;
- Large volumes and tight time frames, requires the incumbent to possess effective communication skills, both written and oral as well as the ability to communicate confidently, effectively and diplomatically at all levels.;
- Full understanding of Company policies and procedures and limitations to personal authority; must have an in-depth knowledge of the Bank’s lending policies, practices and procedures, as well as an awareness of business trends, economic, technological, social, legal and political conditions and factors which could affect the viability of a credit;
- The ability to work quickly and accurately;
- At least ten years’ practical experience in dealing with the credit solutions;
- Sound knowledge and familiarity with certain computer systems/packages in order to conduct analyses and work performed by the department;
- Good organizational and managerial skills to direct and coordinate workload, to prioritize tasks and elicit a high level of productivity to meet objectives within tight daily deadlines. The incumbent needs to be a highly organized, analytical and logical person to perform in this credit role; and
- A solid knowledge and understanding of financial statements and accounting principles and policies is a must. In the administration of credit, complex loan documentation and security provision requirements must be understood and applied. Understanding of legal terminology is a requirement for this role.
