Financial Planning is a cornerstone of the MD Signature Private Wealth Management (MDS) offer. In MDS we work with some of Canada’s most successful physicians and their families to provide end-to-end financial planning services, tailored to meet our client’s unique needs.  The MDS Financial Planning Team (FPT) provides customized financial planning to our MDS clients

 


Reporting to the Director, Financial Planning, as the Senior Manager, Signature Planners, you will be accountable for the day-to-day oversight of approximately 15 MD Signature Planning team members, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures, with the ultimate goal of providing consistent, physician focused and best-in-class financial planning. 

 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

Lead the strategic and tactical implementation of best-in-class advice and solutions specifically related to MD Signature financial planning.

 

•    You will support the recruitment process and working with senior management and Human Resources in the selection and hiring process for new Signature Planners.
•    You will provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to Signature Financial Planners regarding best practices, client concerns, meaningful client conversations, tool usage, and potential business opportunities to ensure sales objectives and client expectations are met and employee engagement remains high. 
•    You will identify and implement initiatives designed to improve operational efficiency.
•    You will model a customer-focused, client first culture throughout your team, with an emphasis on deepening client relationships by leveraging the expertise of Signature Team experts and Bank relationships.  
•    Working with the key financial planning stakeholder across MD and Scotiabank, as well as the client’s external professional Advisors, you will remove barriers, share best practices and develop best-in-class comprehensive financial plans for high-net-worth clients with varying levels of complexity, ensuring the client’s needs are pro-actively addressed in alignment with their current financial situation, life stage and future aspirations.   
•    You will collaborate with external stakeholders such as financial planning software providers, and professional accounting firms used for webinars or special projects.
•    You will partner with other leaders in the Signature space to ensure continuous improvement of processes, from the identification stage to plan delivery, facilitating the delivery of optimal financial planning aligned with Signature strategy to achieve sales effectiveness and business results/targets.  
•    You will create and participate in initiatives for MD sponsored events, seminars, and webinars for prospective MD Signature clients.
•    You will ensure adherence to professional standards, including policies, procedures and best practices, and professional codes of conduct related to client engagement, taking Scotiabank’s risk appetite and culture into consideration relative to day-to-day activities and decisions.

The Must Haves:


•    University degree
•    Accredited financial planning designation (CFP, Pl.Fin -IQPF applicable for Quebec)
•    Excellent written and presentation skills
•    10+ years of experience as a practicing financial planner/advisor supporting client level advice.
•    Extensive knowledge of Canadian Financial Planning software, specifically Vision Systems and Conquest.
•    Comprehensive technical and behavioral understanding and execution of the financial planning process including strong capabilities in the tax, insurance, and estate planning fields along with other financial planning areas such as investments, asset protection, retirement, and cash management.
•    Working knowledge of the wealth management business line including the value proposition, the products and services it provides to clients, and the manner in which they are delivered.
•    Life Insurance license or Knowledge of insurance products and solutions.
•    Knowledge in facilitating successful business line, staff discussions, negotiations including strategic influencing and people management skills to facilitate strong teamwork and co-ordinated execution of multiple deliverables. Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the complex nature of all stages of a physicians’ lifecycle including, medical schools, residency and new to physician practice to develop strategies.
•    Strong Presentation skills particularly related to financial matters. The ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively. 
•    Ability to work as part of an interdependent team and individually when required. Works well with autonomy and is an excellent communicator in a modern, flexible work environment.
•    Proven skills and experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, peers, client facing advisors, leadership, and senior management.
•    Superior time management and prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.

In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient knowledge of English, as the work involves interacting and collaborating regularly with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other people, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
