The role: 

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Translation Services, the Manager of this unit is responsible for the French translation of materials supporting the bank’s business. 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:  

 

  • In collaboration with the Translation Project Specialist, the Manager of this unit assigns work to appropriate resources, which includes the following tasks:
    • Prioritizes projects and identifies appropriate resources, in-house Translators and\or external vendors. Maximizes in-house capacity to ensure most efficient use of resources.
    • Coordinates timelines on an on-going basis with internal partners. Negotiates deadlines with external vendors.
    • Prepares for the translation assignment by communicating with the requestor to obtain further information about the request when all relevant details are not provided.
  • Revises texts translated by unit employees and external providers to ensure the quality and accuracy of the text. Translates occasionally when specific situations require it.   
  • Provides ongoing training and coaching to employees supervised. Assesses their performance and escalates any performance\HR issue to Senior Manager.
  • Contributes to maintaining a pleasant work environment in the department. Contributes to the smooth operation of the department by properly following the established administrative procedures: timely follow-up with employees and business partners, etc. Ensures the fair and equitable treatment of all team members. Participates in resolving issues presented in employee engagement surveys.
  • Participates in objective planning, process definition, and other management tasks related to her\his unit and as requested by Senior Manager. 
  • Provides the highest quality of services to business partners by ensuring that Service Level Agreements are met or exceeded.   

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We’d love to work with you if you have:  

 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in financial services 
  • BA specialized in translation (English to French) 
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English
  • Solid leadership experience in a translation team 
  • Thorough knowledge of translation tools and Microsoft Office suite
  • Working ability to manage several priorities simultaneously
  • Member of OTTIAQ (an asset)
  • Knowledge of banking environment, services and products (an asset)

In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient knowledge of English, as the work involves interacting and collaborating regularly with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other people, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
