Leads and oversees Human Resources activities across all areas of Scotiabank in Quebec. Partners with relevant business line and functional HRBPs and HR COEs to provide key support for a coordinated approach to overall talent activities for Quebec inclusive of all Quebec business lines and functions. Directly responsible as primary HR Business Partner to Quebec/Eastern Ontario Retail Distribution, Quebec Commercial Banking leaders and Grow Quebec teams. 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: 

  • Delivers a comprehensive and coordinated talent strategy for Scotiabank Quebec
  • Fosters a high-performance culture and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates talent by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning.
  • Represents HR in various business leadership forums to contribute to strategic planning and ongoing business decision-making
  • Works across the Quebec footprint to establish relevant cross business programs, in collaboration with Head Office, which support our One Bank, One Client service delivery strategy in Quebec
  • Coordinates talent management across lines of business and functions for Quebec to bring uniformity to talent strategy, talent management, recruitment flow between businesses with overlapping needs and overall consistent counsel.
  • Active participant at Quebec Leadership team meetings
  • Provides and executes on workforce-related advice, strategies, and solutions related to workforce planning, recruitment, learning and development, performance management, compensation, and succession planning using tools and assets developed by COE (Centres of Excellence).
  • Leverages workforce data generated by HR Services to formulate people insights and recommendations across Quebec.
  • Acts a point person to facilitate HR approvals
  • Provides proactive talent thought leadership and insights based on current internal trends and/or emerging external trends for business leaders.
  • Ensures Quebec-based business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures
  • Ensures comprehensive delivery of HR-related activities and documents in French-language and in compliance with laws of Quebec (including HR policies, employment contracts, communications)
  • Advocates and champions the HR operating model within the business. Proactively contributes to the transformation of the HR operating model, with the aim of supporting a globally integrated function that is scalable, flexible, and efficient.
  • Understands the business’ markets, environment, and needs, sharing insight back into Business HR the COE and HR Services.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment suitable to the pursuit of efficient and effective operations, including business controls pertaining to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Must be fluent in French and English both oral and written.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant HR or business experience.
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably with focus on business/human resources or HR practioner work-related experience.
  • CHRP, CHRL or other HR designation, is an asset.
  • Strong communications skills and people skills. Ability to deal effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Able to collaborate with HR stakeholders, business partners and coach managers
  • Actively listens and seeks to understand needs with genuine curiosity.
  • Puts our external client experience in centre of all work
  • Strong problem solving, conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Highly effective in strategically influencing and persuading senior leaders.
  • Results oriented and able to effectively execute in a fast past environment
  • Expert strategic capabilities to assess issues and their potential impact on the Bank
  • Excellent project management and HR generalist skills to oversee execution of complex change and communication strategies
  • Strong business acumen and willing to learn about various business areas
  • Understands how data relates to actions and results for an individual person or team.

Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to be able to communicate in English in addition to French because they will be required to work closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English, they will report to a manager from head office who is an English speaker, and they will serve an English-speaking clientele.
