Who Are We?

Scotiabank’s Commercial Banking professionals are committed to delivering advice. Team players with a client-centric approach and a strong emphasis on results will thrive in our flexible, growth-oriented environment, and our one-of-a-kind people-first culture.

Commercial Banking:

Our Commercial Banking group is a part of Canadian Banking, our largest business line, by revenue. The co-op terms and internships within this area are designed to prepare students for our Commercial Accelerate Program after graduation. This is an exciting group, with many interesting areas to explore, including Distribution, Real Estate, Roynat Capital, Agriculture, Leasing, and Global Risk Management.

During your term, you'll get an early look at the fundamentals of financial analysis and risk assessment, while learning from leaders who manage clients of all sizes. You'll receive training to create proposals that will help your clients meet their financial and business goals. This hands-on experience is an accelerated learning platform that will provide more knowledge and experience in one term than most people receive in four years of post-secondary studies.

You will…

  • Deepen client relationships by understanding clients’ businesses, being a client champion, providing administrative support/service for client-facing interactions and providing actionable recommendations to support credit decisions
  • Conduct company and industry analysis
  • Conduct financial modelling (financial and credit analysis)
  • Collect and assimilate information necessary to make sound credit decisions
  • Make it easy to do business by minimizing touch points to provide fast turnaround times, including sound and timely credit underwriting support and financial analysis

Who we are looking for?

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, in order to develop and maintain relationships with Commercial business customers
  • Enrolled in an undergrad/post-secondary degree in Business, Commerce, Finance or Accounting related discipline. Strong knowledge and understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
  • Prior experience in providing customer needs-based advice and solutions
  • Natural curiosity and passion for satisfying customer needs
  • Analytical skills and strong attention to detail
  • Able to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook effectively
  • Problem solving skills
  • Presentation skills
  • The ability to operate in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment

How do I Apply?

For students applying to our internship/co-op or new graduate programs, we do not require resumes! We believe in evaluating you through relationships over resumes and are focused on learning about who you are and what you’re interested in to uncover your true potential. Instead, we ask that as part of your application you complete the below:
