Purpose

The Data Risk Advisor is a member of the Data and AI Risk (DAIR) team within Global Risk Management and reports to the Director, Data & AI Risk.

Based in Mexico City, the role leads and supports the execution of second-line data risk activities for assigned business lines, regions, countries and/or subsidiaries.

Works with local, regional and enterprise stakeholders to identify, assess, monitor, challenge, escalate and report data risk, and to support the implementation of the Bank’s data risk management framework, policies, risk appetite and governance requirements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work for the planning, coordination and delivery of assigned components of the Data Risk Management Program Plan and associated second-line data risk activities for assigned business lines, regions, countries and/or subsidiaries.
  • Work within the second-line review and challenge of first-line data risk management practices, controls and supporting evidence, including assessment of control design and operating effectiveness where required by the applicable oversight or testing methodology.
  • Support local adoption and implementation of enterprise data risk policies, standards, procedures and risk appetite requirements.
  • Review proposed local addenda or variances and coordinate the required advice, challenge, concurrence or escalation through the appropriate governance process.
  • Establish and manage the work plan for assigned coverage, coordinate priorities and stakeholders, and maintain accountability for the quality, consistency and timely delivery of second-line data risk activities.
  • Coordinate with local Non-Financial Risk, business, technology, data governance and control partners to implement the data risk operating model and clarify roles, deliverables and escalation paths.
  • Identify, assess, document and escalate data risk issues, control weaknesses, incidents and emerging risks.
  • Provide effective challenge of action plans and monitor remediation through completion.
  • Integrate, analyze, challenge and report data risk appetite metrics, key risk indicators, incidents, issues and program progress.
  • Prepare clear reporting and insights for internal team review, local and enterprise governance forums, senior management and, where required, executive or board-level audiences.
  • Support data risk assessments and reviews of new and existing processes, including structured analysis of information, documentation and relevant data or reporting outputs.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable regulatory and compliance expectations across assigned coverage and relevant enterprise requirements.
  • Support gap assessments, action planning and maintenance of evidence.
  • Build trusted relationships across assigned business lines, regions and the broader Bank by communicating complex data risk concepts clearly in both Spanish and English and providing practical, risk-based guidance.
  • Identify and execute enhancements to data risk oversight practices, while fostering an inclusive, collaborative and high-performance team environment.

Education, Experience and Other Requirements

  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in a financial institution or another highly regulated environment, with experience in data risk, data governance, data management, internal control, risk management, compliance, audit or related areas.
  • In-depth knowledge of data risk, data governance and data management concepts, including data quality, metadata, lineage, critical data, controls and risk appetite.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, banking regulation and compliance expectations.
  • Knowledge of financial services regulation and the local control environment is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience performing review and challenge, assessing controls, managing issues or action plans, and communicating risk conclusions supported by evidence.
  • Ability to prepare concise senior management, executive and governance reporting that synthesizes complex information into clear risk messages and actionable insights.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages, is required for effective engagement with regional and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship management, facilitation and meeting leadership skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders across functions, geographies and levels of seniority.
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual and systematic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity, exercise sound judgment and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, self-directed and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Working Conditions

  • The role is based in Mexico City and performed in hybrid scheme 3 days by week on the office at Reforma, CDMX.
  • No business travel is expected.
  • Periodic collaboration across time zones may be required to support global business units, countries and subsidiaries.
