Purpose   
 
Contributes to the overall success of the Department in Globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. 
 
Under the supervision of the Manager Database Administration, manage and provide support for the banks Oracle, MySQL databases. As a member of the database administration group, the incumbent will assist in the team effort to maximize the availability, security, and performance of the databases.  
 
The incumbent is required to be on-call on a rotational basis to support the banks databases. The incumbent must be prepared to do shift work as well as provide remote dial in support, or occasionally on-site support in response to routine monitoring alerts, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks occurring after hours and on weekends.  


 
Responsibilities  
  
 
•    Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. 
•    Provide 24x7 production support (L1 & L2) – rotational shift 
**When oncall you are required to be available afterhours, weekends, and holidays 
•    Implement new database/database components or enhancements  
•    Install, patch, upgrade Oracle databases and components 
•    Remediate security vulnerabilities identified for Oracle databases and components 
•    Perform database migrations 
•    Ensure adherence to BNS database and security standards 
•    Provide Root Cause Analysis for incidents 
•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education/ experience

 

•    Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive technical working experience as a Database administrator.  
•    Experience with production database creation, upgrade and administration of Oracle versions 11g, 12c, 19c.  
•    Setup, configuration, and support of:  
o    Oracle databased on Windows & Linux. o Oracle RAC+ASM. 
o    Oracle ODBC, JDBC, Heterogeneous Connectivity. 
•    Oracle Data Guard. 
•    Performance tuning.  
•    Oracle Exadata. 
•    Working knowledge of MySQL. 
•    Working knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM). 
•    Strong problem solving, analytical, trouble shooting and automation skills.  
•    Excellent negotiation, presentation, and time management skills.  
•    Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.  
Nice-to-Have:   
•    Database upgrade and migration experience   
•    Financial Institution / Banking industry experience   
•    Any experience with Oracle OLAP, OWB, OEM, Perl, Shell Scripting   
Education and Other Requirements:  
•    A degree in Computer Science, math, or related discipline.   
•    Oracle DBA OCP certification in is desirable.
