Purpose
The Managing Director & Head of Corporate Banking for the Caribbean provides strategic direction and comprehensive oversight of Scotiabank’s Corporate Banking franchise across the region. The role is responsible for shaping and executing business strategies that drive profitable growth, expand market presence, and deepen relationships with corporate and institutional clients. Working closely with the SVPs of Corporate Banking & Capital Markets for International Banking, along with GBM leadership and functional Centers of Excellence, the Managing Director evaluates regional market opportunities, establishes priorities, and ensures the implementation of structures and processes that enhance sales capacity and operational effectiveness. As a senior leadership figure in the region, the role represents the Bank in regulatory, governmental, and industry forums, while embedding Scotiabank’s risk culture and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. The position also plays a critical people leadership role, building a high performance, development focused environment across multiple countries and teams.
Responsibilities
•Lead the development and continuous refinement of the Corporate Banking strategy for the Caribbean, assessing market opportunities and setting business priorities aligned with Scotiabank’s objectives.
•Build and maintain strategic external and internal relationships to support execution and strengthen Scotiabank’s profile across regional markets.
•Represent the Bank in key industry associations and in government and regulatory advocacy efforts.
•Drive a customer focused culture that deepens client relationships and leverages broader Scotiabank capabilities across all countries.
•Lead Relationship Managers in designing and executing market strategies that enhance client engagement, strengthen relationship depth, and improve sales effectiveness.
•Identify emerging issues, trends, and risks, escalating to senior leadership with clear recommendations.
•Ensure all strategies and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and Scotiabank’s risk appetite. Embed appropriate risk taking and transparent decision making throughout the team.
•Oversee governance processes to ensure effective day to day business controls across operational, regulatory, AML/ATF, sanctions, and conduct risk areas.
•Provide coaching, direction, and mentoring to Corporate Banking teams, creating an environment that supports performance, open communication, and professional growth.
•Evaluate performance, deliver timely feedback, and take corrective actions as required.
•Build and sustain a high performance, inclusive culture that attracts, retains, and develops talent across the region and supports succession planning.
Education / Experience
•15+ years of senior experience in Corporate Banking With a demonstrated track record managing significant corporate portfolios and leading Corporate Banking teams in environments comparable in scale and sophistication to Scotiabank.
•Deep expertise in credit and risk management
•Extensive experience assessing credit structures, overseeing risk-return decisions, and ensuring alignment with internal risk appetite and regulatory frameworks
•Experience managing teams across multiple countries and offices
•Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate teams across diverse geographies, fostering collaboration and ensuring consistent execution.
•Experience engaging with senior corporate and institutional clients
•Demonstrated ability to manage relationships at all organizational levels and provide strategic guidance tailored to client requirements.
•Familiarity with regulatory expectations across the Caribbean
•Experience operating within regulated environments, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with policies, governing regulations, and risk obligations.
•Bilingual communication skills
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, essential for operating across a multi-market regional structure.
