Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of GBM Business Risk Management UK in London (& support Europe as appropriate) ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Responsible for supporting the execution of the GBM Business Risk Management Mandate across the core pillars as required and in support of the team to ensure effective systems of controls, procedure and requirements are in place for GBMT in UK, and support of broader European requirements as necessary.
Supports the team in providing delegated 1st line of defense support and guidance to business line management for managing operational risk, work with a team that helps ensure an effective system of controls exists in GBM.
Accountabilities
- Contributes to a positive risk culture and ensures day-to-day activities and decisions are undertaken in accordance with the Bank’s risk appetite.
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of the team process, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Scotiabank Code of Conduct.

- Championing a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems and knowledge
- Provide support in the enablement and management of Trading Venues and electronic platforms utilized by GBM Europe business lines. Manage onboarding, documentation, access management on behalf of the business lines ensuring business usage in a controlled manner and in adherence with regulatory requirements, specifically MiFID II. Ensure alignment Remote Booking procedures as well as Broker onboarding and Third-Party Risk Management.
- Support TPRM Lead in executing a number of third-party requirements supporting the mandate, inclusive of governance and secretary support (minutes, actions, terms of reference reviews/ changes, meetings, etc.), data gathering and coordination of MI, inputs to presentations and other information requirements of stakeholders, support to contract owners, engagement with second-line risk in understanding of framework requirements, systems (COUPA/ICERTIS), and delivery of enhancements as directed by TPRM lead.
- Support the implementation of the Comms and Surveillance mandate through timely review and completion of alerts allocated, following due process and procedures, guided by the Comms Surveillance Lead including escalations as appropriate.
- Support the UK Director, as appropriate on executing the broader IC mandate, its priorities including timely completion of tasks and processes as directed, working closely with the teams in both UK and in Ireland for related initiatives to achieve consistency in delivery of the IC mandate.
- Collaborate with GBM business lines, AML 2nd Line, Compliance and internal stakeholders to develop and maintain robust processes and procedures. Work with team members and stakeholders to implement new procedures and meet internal/external audit standards.
- To partner with the GBM business lines and other stakeholders in UK, Ireland and Toronto to enhance risk governance & controls as well as supervision and oversight of processes and to foster open communication and

- Multiple risk framework systems inclusive ORE, GIMs, Coupa, Icertis, Nira,etc
- Multiple business lines in GBM, with multiple stakeholders including Control & Support functions.
- Wide range of products and services to clients, including corporate lending, equity and debt underwriting, M&A advisory, as well as fixed income, equity sales/trading/research, prime brokerage, securitization, foreign exchange, rates hedging, and precious/base metals sales, trading, and storage.
- Complex regulatory and business environment (e.g. MIFID II, Brexit, etc).
- Approximately 350 staff in London and 100 staff in Dublin.
Education / Experience
- University Degree or good experience in banking environment.
- Expert/good working knowledge of Business Risk Management.
- Understanding of a Markets environment, demands of stakeholders in this environment and related products, securities and derivatives.
- Strong understanding of Management Information reporting
- Strong computer skills, particularly in consolidation manipulation and numerous large data sets.
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Good communication skills
- The incumbent receives direction from Business Risk Management Europe management but is expected to demonstrate a high degree of initiative and self-discipline, ensuring the timely completion of assignments. Guidance is also provided by various monographs/manuals, which address Bank and Company policies and procedures, and non-standard operating procedures.
