Programme Overview:

 

Scotiabank offers an exciting opportunity to join the London-based Business Risk Management team of a Canadian Bank commencing in June 2026. 

 

This 10-week programme is designed for students in their first year of study (or second year of a four year degree) and will offer unique insights into many of the Bank’s business areas allowing you to learn the nature of the non-financial risk and control framework that protects the Bank. 

 

This programme is rotational and will enable you to understand how Business Risk Management oversee the strategies employed by the Bank to mitigate risks. The rotations will comprise of 5 weeks with the Business Risk Management team who support the Capital Markets business, followed by 5 weeks with the Anti Money Laundering Advisory and Control team. 

 

 

What You Can Expect: 

 

During the programme, you will:

 

  • Assist with implementing the control framework in the first line
  • Help to administer various monitoring activities
  • Prepare periodic reports for onward presentation
  • Liaise with other control and support functions to co-ordinate approaches to risk mitigation
  • Pool and manipulate sources of data for analysis and reporting
  • Work on new initiatives designed to enhance business performance  
  • Assist with risk assessments (Risk and Control Self Assessments) with various desks to identify risk and suggest improvements
  • Assist with documenting Operational Risk Events to understand route cause of the issues and possible remediations
  • Review the local regulatory environment within which the bank operates
  • Complete daily controls relating to remote booking
  • Test existing control effectiveness
  • Assist with preparation of governance packs to manage risk
  • Assist with mandatory trader supervision tasks
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Complete an intern project assignment and present it to the wider team
  • Any other ad hoc work tasks assigned by management
  • Contribute to the assessment of Sanctions, Adverse News and Politically Exposed Entities

Who We're Looking For:

 

  • You are a first-year undergraduate student (or second-year on a four-year degree)
  • You are available for a 10-week internship between mid-June to end of August 2026
  • You have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the financial markets
  • You are a self-starter with an inquisitive mindset that is willing to learn
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • You are a team-player with strong communication skills
  • You have a strong work ethic with excellent attention to detail and a focus to deliver
  • You possess a reasonable standard of statistical literacy
  • You are eligible to work in the United Kingdom
