TITLE: Technical Specialist Advisory
DUTIES: The Bank of Nova Scotia seeks Technical Specialist Advisory in Houston, TX to provide highly specialized technical leadership in the analysis, design, development, and support of cost effective, mission critical, online, real-time financial trading, risk management and decision support systems. Support the implementation of cost-effective applications to meet the business objectives by providing detailed technical designs, investigating and recommending new technology. Elicit User requirements via interviews, workshops, questionnaires, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, process modeling, analysis of existing systems and documentation, and other methods. Document the User requirements in the form of Business Requirements Document (BRD), Functional Requirements Document (FRD) and User Stories. Provide recommendations on departmental standards surrounding systems architecture, application development, systems integration, data modeling, testing, as well as, performing reviews and walkthroughs of all major project deliverables to ensure the quality and completeness of functionality. Undertake project leadership duties to the most technically complex applications by developing detailed work plans, scheduling resources, monitoring progress against plan, ensuring development is conducted according to standards, providing leadership to staff and reviewing all work delivered. Provide production and user acceptance testing application support to the most complex technical problems on all applications that service the business unit by analyzing problems, implementing solutions and developing new procedures surrounding support. Ensure the department’s objectives are met by assisting in recruiting qualified staff, keeping turnover low, providing input to performance appraisals on time and maintaining up to date knowledge of technology, industry and business practices.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Applied Computer Science or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or related occupation: Utilizing Java, JMS, Spring Framework, and Microservices to deliver automated solutions across various back-office components, including collateral management, segregation deficit requirements, regulatory reporting, and report generation; using Java-based UI frameworks for user interface development, along with modern technologies including Angular; working with databases including Oracle, Sybase, and MySQL; writing SQL and PL/SQL scripts with a focus on query optimization to automate manual workflows for the Operations department and to develop automated reporting solutions and tools; leveraging message-based technologies including Kafka, IBM MQ, and TIBCO EMS, along with various SWIFT message formats to ensure reliable information exchange with depositories (DTCC, CDS) and custodians (Bony, JPMC); facilitating business workflows including post-trade confirmations, settlements, and clearings; managing multiple initiatives, adhere to strict delivery timelines, and apply risk assessment and mitigation strategies for project execution; applying capital markets knowledge to streamline and automate business processes; Overseeing and mentoring development team members, conducting code reviews, and monitoring and presenting the overall health and progress of projects. Telecommuting and/or working from home may be permissible pursuant to company policies. When not telecommuting, must report to work site. In the alternative, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in one of the above-listed fields and three (3) years of experience in the above-listed skills.
