Purpose
The Director, U.S. Commercial Banking is responsible for leading Scotiabank’s U.S. Commercial Banking platform focused on supporting the U.S. subsidiaries and cross border banking needs of existing Canadian Commercial Banking.
The role is designed to strengthen the Bank’s ability to serve clients operating across North America corridors by delivering coordinated commercial banking, treasury, payments, cash management, onboarding, and working capital solutions within the United States.
The mandate is focused on deepening primary banking relationships with existing clients operating across borders and supporting their expansion into and through the United States.
What You’ll Do
Accountabilities
• Champion a client centric culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining strong client relationships within their sector to deliver solutions that Scotiabank can provide across its footprint.
Business Strategy
• Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for the U.S. Commercial Banking business supporting the U.S. subsidiaries of existing clients, working closely with the Multinational Banking team.
• Build and lead the U.S. Commercial Banking platform, including organizational design, hiring strategy, coverage model, onboarding support, and governance structure
• Drive disciplined portfolio growth focused on primacy, deposits, treasury services, payments flows, and working capital solutions
Client Coverage & Relationship Management
• Lead the development of coordinated cross border coverage strategies for priority commercial banking relationships operating within the United States
• Support the delivery of integrated banking solutions including deposits, cash management, payments, liquidity management, and foreign exchange
Risk, AML & Operational Excellence
• Maintain strong governance and oversight across onboarding, KYC, AML, sanctions, and regulatory processes
• Partner closely with Compliance, Risk, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure disciplined execution
• Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

What You’ll Bring
• Relevant banking experience across Commercial Banking, Multinational Banking, Corporate Banking, Global Transaction Banking, or related disciplines
• Deep understanding of cash management, payments, treasury services, liquidity solutions, and commercial banking operating models
• Strong knowledge of U.S. banking infrastructure, account opening requirements, KYC, AML, onboarding, and cross border regulatory considerations
• English fluency required
• Spanish fluency preferred
• French proficiency considered an asset
