The incumbent will report to the Treasury Department. The Bank of Nova Scotia is committed to the values of the Bank rooted in respect, integrity, passion, and accountability. As a Trainee within Treasury, you will be responsible for supporting various activities and gaining relevant exposures:

 

Accountabilities

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 
  • Champions a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Comply with all HKMA and BNS regulations and best practices, including all money laundering and Know Your Customer policies as advised by Compliance / KYC / AML teams and operate within all authorized limits across the desk.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the periodic reviews (KYC and Onboarding requirements) for the team.
  • Assist in BCP plan updates and testing, with guidance from Head of Treasury
  • Assisting dealers in the execution of the day-to-day activities. 
  • Change Management Projects:
    • Assist in the design, streamlining and mapping of processes to enhance operational efficiency 
    • Enhancing the automation of ALM and cashflows monitoring file
    • Preparation & reconciliation of regulatory ratio between FO vs BO
    • Automation of processes, adoption of regional FTP into deposit pricing framework. HKD and CNH FTP curves database and dissemination 
    • Building out internal cashflow/risk models to capture loan exposures and to enhance/automate management reporting processes 
  • Assist in building operational efficiency through sharing of best practices. 
  • Assist in reviewing business end to end process and key controls documentation.
  • Provide support in minutes taking when working with key stakeholders to effectively manage issues and crisis during meetings. 
  • Assist in providing data analysis and reporting when required.
  • Any other Ad Hoc duties and projects

 

Others
•    Studying for a degree / major in Finance/Accounting/Business/Economics. Other disciplines will also be considered. 
•    Display strong analytical, presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills, demonstrated by a capability to synthesize a large amount of information into a clear message. 
•    Strong MS Excel and VBA skills preferred.
•    You will need to demonstrate teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
•    The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and interact with a variety of people are also key qualities.
•    Highly productive, delivers quality results with great attention to detail.
•    Self-motivated/directed with an ability to take direction from multiple areas
