Global Banking and Markets
Global Banking and Markets (GBM) conducts the Bank’s wholesale banking and capital markets business with corporate, government and institutional investor clients. GBM is a full-service wholesale bank and investment dealer in Canada and Mexico and offers a range of products and services in the U.S., Latin America and in select markets in Europe and Asia-Pacific.
More specifically, GBM provides clients with: corporate lending; transaction banking (including payments, trade finance and cash management); investment banking (including corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions); fixed income and equity underwriting, sales, trading and research; prime services (prime brokerage and stock lending); foreign exchange sales and trading; commodity derivatives; and collateral management.
Purpose:
Supporting the respective team to manage their marketing activities across capital markets products and their lending portfolios, you will be responsible for handling or providing assistance on all credit-related activities including the completion of credit presentations, identifying lending and cross-sell opportunities, structuring loan transactions, performing due diligence, negotiating documentation and monitoring compliance and industry trends.
Working closely with a Director, the Associate will support the management of a diversified portfolio of Atlantic Canadian clients across sectors including Power & Utilities; Consumer, Industrial & Retail; Energy; Government; and Real Estate. Scotiabank is a leading corporate bank in Atlantic Canada, serving as Administrative Agent on many of the region's corporate credit facilities, merger and acquisition financings, and select project finance transactions, providing the successful candidate with exposure to a broad range of complex and high-profile banking mandates.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide day to day account management support
- Structure, analyze and perform due diligence on transactions that vary in complexity
- Develop recommendations for the appropriate course of action
- Analyze, process and execute credit requests
- Research credit and bank product requirements of existing and prospective clients
- Ensure credit files, agreements and security documents are complete and up to date
- Monitor and follow for client compliance
- Assist with the preparation of marketing pitches
- Coordinate with various product groups within GBM
- Develop and maintain effective industry relationships with other lenders, legal counsel, clients
- Assist with strategic portfolio projects and reporting
What You’ll Bring:
- BComm, MBA/CFA designation is an asset
- 3-5 years of experience in Corporate Banking
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Financial modelling experience
- Strong computer skills including the use of MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, experience with CoPilot is an asset
- Business development capabilities
- Flexible to demands of work and viewed as a valuable team resource
- High attention to detail with a sense of urgency appropriate to the situation
- Strong time management skills and driven to achieve timelines and goals
Work Arrangement:
This position is an onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
