Title:  EDDU Sr Analyst

Position:  EDDU Senior Analyst | EDDU Caribbean Region | Global AML Operations 
L: 6.1



Purpose  

Contributes to the overall success of the Enhanced Due Diligence Unit (EDDU) across designated countries, and additional Global AML Operations workstreams as the business evolves. Responsible for specific individual objectives, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives.  Ensures that all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies and procedures while achieving client experience standards required by the Bank.  

 


Accountabilities  

  • Completes complex Enhanced Due Diligence activities according with current regulations, policies and implemented procedures, within the established timelines. 

  • Analyzes client information, transaction activities, and external data to assess client risk levels, in accordance with internal procedures. 

  • Documents findings resulted from performing EDD activities clearly and concisely, in accordance with internal procedures.  

  • Requests additional information to the business line with established response times, escalating requests as required. 

  • Completes all applicable unusual transactions reports (UTR) for observed unusual transactions and submits the required supporting documentation to the country's Financial Investigation Unit (FIU), as per process in place. 

  • Supports Management in reviewing EDD case quality and provide targeted recommendations to AML leadership, as needed. 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.  

  • Ensures effective and efficient operations of the Enhanced Due Diligence Unit with adherence to day-to-day business controls.  

  • Ensures proper records and audit trail of due diligence activity and disposition actions for all the cases. 

  • Provides guidance and input to the Enhanced Due Diligence teams regarding specific cases on an as needed/escalation basis. 

  • Monitors case service levels and escalate to the Manager, as needed.  

  • Actively identifies opportunities for process and system improvements and participate as appropriate in the implementation process.  

  • Identifies and share emerging risk factors and trends that may impact AML.  

  • Contributes to the development of typologies based on significant cases and identify trends to improve service to clients.  

  • Responds promptly to requests and concerns from Partners, Security & Investigations, and other risk functions across the Scotiabank Group.   

  • Stay up to date on EDDU continuous improvements with a comprehensive understanding of the banks risk appetite and risk culture. 

  • Understand how the Banks risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.  

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational compliance, AML/ATF/Sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Is able to operate across jurisdictions as required by operational demands, ensuring consistent application of standards and procedures. 

  • Undertakes to ad hoc requirements from management, ensuring timely response, which might include special AML workstreams, investigations, regulatory requests, among others. 



    Education/Experience/Other information (include only those that are specific to the role)   



    • University degree in a business or legal related field 

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in AML, Enhanced Due Diligence, Compliance and/or Audit capacity in a financial institution will be considered an asset. 

    • Preferably a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS) or Certified Financial Crime Specialist (CFCS) designation.  

    • Good analytical skills to make rational and logical interpretations, at times with limited information.   

    • Solid knowledge of local and major international AML/ATF regulations and regulatory reporting framework. 

    • A solid understanding of Scotiabank's internal business lines, products, procedures and systems. 

    • Bilingual proficiency in English and/Spanish (required). 

    • Ability to build strong cross-functional business relationships.  

    • Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency without compromising compliance requirements. 

    • Intermediate level with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) 

    • Problem solving skills to deal with complex operational issues.  

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to manage difficult conversations.  

    • Results oriented, highly motivated with keen ability to influence others.  

    • Self-reliant and pro-active approach to work. 

    • Able to work under pressure. 

    • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving organization and time management skills.
