Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Credit Risk Function in Europe ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Monitor, analyse, and report on the performance of the credit portfolio within SIDAC and the European credit portfolio.
- Prepare, maintain and enhance MIS dashboards and reports to monitor credit portfolio performance across products, segments and risk grades.
- Contribute in annual risk appetite review, particularly concerning establishing and calibrating credit metrics, limits and KRIs. Track key credit risk metrics, including risk appetite metrics, asset quality indicators, non-performing and forborne exposures, defaults, concentration and ESG risks.
- Analyse portfolio trends to identify emerging risks, early warning indicators and areas of under- or over-performance.
- Provide timely and insightful portfolio analysis to senior management, Risk Committees, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across all portfolio reporting, including the integration of consolidated credit reporting within Europe.
- Identify opportunities to improve, streamline, and automate MIS, reporting and portfolio monitoring processes, partnering with IT, Data, and Risk teams to enhance reporting tools.
- Manage and oversee IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss process liaising with Finance, Group Credit Risk Analytics and external auditors to support quarter-end, and year-end provisioning processes. Maintain extensive industry knowledge on IFRS 9 and stay up to date with industry best practice and regulatory expectations.
- Support stress testing, including ICAAP, Pillar 2 and economic capital assessment pertaining to credit and ESG risks. Support scenario analysis and ad-hoc portfolio deep dives as required.
- Act a key point of contact for portfolio related queries, supporting regulatory, audit, and internal review requests related to credit portfolio performance and provisioning.
- Responsible for periodic review of and keeping current all assigned policies, frameworks, and procedures and monitor regulatory developments for the areas covered.
- Stay attuned to industry trends, regulatory changes and the competitive landscape. Ensure due considerations is given to climate-related and environmental risks.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct.

Dimensions
- The position oversees a complex and dynamic credit portfolio. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills together with a high level of awareness of Bank policies and an up-to-date knowledge of the local regulatory and operational risk issues.
- A high level of awareness of the Bank’s procedures is essential coupled with the administrative ability to manage complex reporting requirements.
- The incumbent operates in a complex and constantly changing business environment, which may necessitate frequent review of existing and planned strategies. This position has a multi- industry and global geographic focus.
Education / Experience
- Graduate education in business or finance with emphasis in analytics, finance, accounting, or business; or commensurate work experience.
- Strong computer literacy and Excel and Power BI skills
- Experience in a banking or financial reporting capacity.
- Understanding of IFRS 9 accounting standard and ICAAP regulations.
- Basic knowledge of the Bank’s risk appetite, lending policies, procedures and practices including local economic, accounting and regulatory requirements for the various specialized industries in which the Bank’s customers operate an advantage.
- Basic understanding of loan structures and pricing.
- Strong communication skills.
- Be well organized, pro-active, methodical and have a diligent approach to work.
- Strong interpersonal, organization and project management skills and ability to work in a fast- paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly process both quantitative and qualitative information and appreciate its potential relevance to Scotiabank.
