Position Overview:
We have an opportunity for an Associate to join our Power, Utility and Infrastructure (Corporate Banking) team based in Dublin. This role is responsible for contributing to the overall success of Corporate Banking Ireland ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the Power, Utility and Infrastructure team’s business strategies and objectives.
The Associate has two primary roles: (i) to provide high quality account administration, and (ii) to assist in obtaining new business through the analysis and structuring of transactions.
In addition, the Associate will support the Relationship Manager by helping identify the needs of prospective and existing clients.
What You’ll Do:
• Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Member of deal team for all transactions related to assigned portfolio. Tasks include: analysis of business opportunities; preparation of credit presentations and recommendations for review by more senior officers and subsequently Global Risk Management (“GRM”); negotiation of product terms and documentation with borrowers/other banks with supervision from more senior members ultimately culminating in the close of the transaction for the EU.
• Pro-actively monitors assigned portfolio in order to become cognizant of business and industry dynamics and be able to detect changes in credit quality. Escalate concerns to senior members of the team.
• Provides high-quality account administration and maintenance of assigned portfolio with duties to include conducting annual reviews; coordinating account management with team members and loan administration offices; assessing and responding to customer requests for waivers, amendments and the restructuring of credit facilities.
• Provides analytical support to senior members of the team including cash flow modelling and sensitivity analysis for highly structured transactions.
• Supports in the development of Scotiabank’s wider strategic initiatives.
• A moderate degree of external client interaction is required for this role; initially with the supervision of more senior team members.
• A high degree of interaction and support is required with the Bank’s internal groups including for support of KYC, client onboarding, loan operations, loan portfolio management, communication with GRM, communication with Credit Risk, in order to coordinate the execution and closing of transactions.
• Responsibility for preparing and circulating periodic (both weekly and monthly) reports with respect to management of assigned portfolio and working on ad hoc reports or operational projects as assigned.
• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
What You’ll Bring:
• Language skills including English and Spanish or French is required for this role.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• Additional qualifications e.g. MBA/CFA would be an advantage but are not required.
• Prior experience of corporate banking, preferably at an International bank.
• Strong analytical and Excel skills e.g. ability to design and build corporate or asset base cash flow based financial models, and/or legal documentation skills are desirable.
• Strong experience supporting business development, including supporting client prospecting.
• A high level of energy, commitment and a strong sense of teamwork are needed to succeed in this role.
• Analytical thinking – to recognize issues/solve problems, using judgement and common sense while reviewing transactions, reports etc.
