Purpose

 

Lead and contribute to the overall success of the GBM Risk and Controls Management unit ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensure all activities including Nin-Financial Risk, Compliance accountabilities, and business strategies are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

The incumbent is responsible for execution of the GBM Non-Financial Risk and Compliance Framework programs, and methodologies, and tools in accordance with local regulations, and ensuring their sustainability.

 

 

What You’ll Do 

 

  • Lead and provide subject matter expertise and collaboration to GBM ensuring appropriate Regulatory Compliance processes and controls which support business plan growth, increase productivity, mitigate risk and provide consistent customer experience are in place and executed accordingly
  • Oversee, implement and support activities for Compliance, including but not limited to: Compliance Risk & Control Assessment (CRCA), Privacy, Regulatory Libraries, regulatory change management, monitoring and reporting findings, and other assigned compliance programs.  
  • Collaborate with GBM, coordinating and providing oversight to Compliance Regulatory Management, Regulatory Library, Audit Findings and Internal Control Review remediation efforts as required; ensuring operational deficiencies are addressed and operational soundness is maintained.
  • Provide oversight, ongoing monitoring, support, and independent review to ensure effective and efficient risk assessment and adequate controls are in place within supported country.
  • Leads Risk Governance for HR, including Privacy, and Third-Party Risk Management.  Ensures the adherence to Risk, and HR regulations while directing the completion of all required regulatory reporting. 
  • Monitor and report Compliance and Operational Risk metrics and indicators to ensure adherence to the countries y risk appetite, including reporting at the Risk Management Governance and Country level.
  • Lead non-financial risk activities including Scenario analysis, Key Risk Indicators, Data Loss reporting, Business Environment Assessments, New Initiatives Risk Assessment (NIRA)
  • Provide support and advisory to business units in case of control breakdowns, providing guidance on action plan and escalating to relevant executives.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the GBM senior leadership team, ensuring challenges and issues are addressed effectively
  • Monitor events in the financial services industry, identifying new and emerging issues, regulatory initiatives, etc. providing insight to Senior Leadership
  • Share Country updates with GHR Risk Management, noting common themes and trends and issues, to ensure
  • Contributes to GBM Risk Management activities related to the implementation of programs and frameworks, policies and procedures, and internal controls.
  • Responsible to ensure GBM and local HR Policies and Content are compliant with the HR Knowledge Management policies and procedures requirements.
  • Supports US HR Resolution activities including executing annual validation review and HR Playbook maintenance.
  • Enable a stronger risk culture through ongoing coaching on risk and controls and training on the Operational Risk and Compliance Framework and tools.
  • Support Privacy in GBM acting as local Privacy Officer and working in partnership with Global HR Risk Management in Canada.
  • Ensure awareness and compliance with changing Non-Financial and Compliance frameworks. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Lead and manage the team by fostering a high-performance and inclusive environment. Implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates talent through coaching mindset and behaviors, clear communication of vision, values, and business strategy, and proactive succession and development planning for the team.

 

 

What You’ll Bring 

 

  • University Degree/Measurable and demonstrated experience in a senior role with HR background (5 years)
  • Strong understanding of GBM Human Resources, including HR Policies and the regulatory environment, and reporting requirements. 
  • Strong understanding of effective governance and strategy management
  • Ability to align solutions to business imperatives
  • Expert ability to strategically think, influence and communicate throughout all levels of the organization
  • Expert Project Management/leadership/team building skills to effectively lead/motivate the team and excellent skills in relationship and general business management.
  • Superior problem-solving techniques
  • Understanding of key Scotiabank business drivers and context of external environment
  • Able to assess difficult compliance and other regulatory issues, exercise sound judgment expeditiously with respect to such issues and defend decisions with management of the businesses.
  • Able to effectively work with and influence at all levels of management
  • Expert ability to balance competing/ conflicting goals of various stakeholders, requiring a mature, diplomatic approach and highly developed negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and comfort in dealing with change/ambiguity.  The individual must adapt to an environment of uncertainty and shifts in priority.
