Purpose
Identify and mitigate operational risk, especially financial crime risk across GBM by strengthening control design and effectiveness, promoting strong risk ownership, and partnering with Control and Support Functions to drive consistent, sustainable control outcomes.
What You'll Do
Domain Expertise
Deep expertise across Global Capital Markets, Corporate and Investment Banking and/or Global Transaction Banking, with strong business acumen and a comprehensive understanding of client types, product suites, and end-to-end flows of client onboards, with a specific focus on enhanced due diligence for clients that pose a heightened financial crime.
Proven track record in designing, implementing, and strengthening risk and control frameworks, including:
• Financial crime risk and control design, execution, and ongoing enhancement
• Enterprise and business-level risk assessments, with a focus on emerging and residual risk identification
• Operational risk event identification, root cause analysis, and remediation execution
• Strengthening financial crime control effectiveness through close partnership with control and support functions to deliver consistent, sustainable risk outcomes
• Proactive risk and control management
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee AML advisory activities, including high-risk client reviews, onboarding escalations, KYC exception approvals, policy interpretation, and client risk ratings.
• Partner with regional AML teams to maintain a holistic view of client relationships and support global deliverables, including trigger events and periodic reviews.
• Coordinate escalations with first- and second-line partners related to AML, sanctions, and anti-bribery and corruption risks.
• Oversee review of system-generated alerts, ensuring adherence to service levels and quality standards.
• Lead first line contributions to enterprise AML and sanctions risk assessments.
• Support regulatory examinations and internal reviews, serving as a key liaison with compliance testing and audit teams.
• Drive remediation of issues identified through internal and external examinations.
• Oversee management reporting and key metrics, including materials for governance forums and committees.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and control effectiveness.
Leadership and Communication
• Lead and develop high performing teams across in person, remote, and hybrid environments, promoting inclusive leadership and diversity of thought to foster constructive challenge and stronger outcomes.
• Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement by aligning team objectives with enterprise risk priorities, while guiding teams through high pressure regulatory reviews and audits with clear roles, disciplined execution, and timely delivery.
• Coach and mentor talent to deepen expertise in risk management, control execution, and stakeholder engagement.
• Apply thoughtful challenge and strategic influence to drive ownership and execution
Collaboration and Influence
• Partner effectively across the three lines of defense to ensure alignment and consistency in risk practice; and
• Partner across Control and Support Functions, with a strong focus on Operations and Client Onboarding, to identify and manage financial crime risks
• Influence key stakeholders by applying industry best practices and building compelling, business focused cases for risk and control enhancements
Additional Highlights
• Deep understanding and hands-on experience of non financial risk and regulatory requirements
• Broad experience across operational, compliance, and business risk, enabling high‑quality risk assessment, control execution, and continuous improvement, including proactive control enhancements and process efficiencies.
What You'll Bring
• Minimum of 7 years in financial services and AML/ATF compliance;
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in business, related field, audit or equivalent experience;
• ACAMS certified preferred;
• Strong communications, analytical, organizational, project management, and planning skills;
• Knowledge of businesses, products, KYC/AML operations and systems
• Strong knowledge of AML/ATF/Sanctions regulatory requirements and expectations
