The Vice President, Data is responsible for establishing and operating Scotiabank’s enterprise data foundation to enable trusted analytics, AI, and decision-making across the bank.
This role ensures Scotiabank’s data assets are high-quality, governed, accessible, and scalable, supporting business growth, regulatory compliance, and advanced analytics use cases across a complex, multi-cloud environment.
Key Accountabilities:
- Define and execute Scotiabank’s enterprise Data Strategy, aligned with business priorities and technology roadmaps, establishing clear ownership models for data domains, data products, and data stewardship, and ensuring consistency across business lines while enabling regional and functional flexibility.
- Provide strategic oversight of the bank’s data platforms—including Azure, Databricks, and legacy data environments—ensuring platforms support trusted, reusable data products, analytical and AI consumption, and near-real-time and batch use cases, while driving interoperability and reducing data duplication across platforms.
- Own enterprise data governance frameworks covering data quality, lineage and metadata, data ownership and accountability, and privacy and access controls, partnering with Risk, Compliance, and Legal to ensure data practices meet OSFI and global regulatory requirements, and ensuring data is fit for purpose for analytics, reporting, and AI use.
- Establish a federated data operating model balancing centralized standards with business-embedded execution, enabling rapid data product development through standardized patterns, tooling, and documentation, and supporting AI and analytics teams with reliable, well-governed data inputs.
- Act as a strategic partner to business and technology leaders, translating business requirements into scalable data capabilities, and supporting measurement of business value enabled by data products.
- Build and lead a high-performing data leadership team, develop talent across data engineering, data architecture, and data governance, and foster a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
- Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team

Education / Experience / Other Information
- 15+ years of leadership experience in data, analytics, or technology roles.
- Deep expertise in modern data architectures and platforms.
- Proven experience operating data functions in regulated environments.
- Strong stakeholder and executive communication skills.
- Able to lead teams through a fast-paced environment with priorities that can quickly change and often are in conflict with each other.
