Purpose

 

Own and drive regulatory and supervisory product development for Sales and Trading products across Capital Markets. Design business activities to be compliant with existing and emerging regulations. Build, create, and enhance processes that will be directly leveraged to drive business in well-controlled and sustainable manner. Create efficiencies thereby creating bandwidth and directly driving revenue generation within sales and trading desks. Act as first line accountable owner for related activities as specifically required by US regulators. Drive the design and execution of the firm’s growing regulatory activities related to the Capital Markets sales and trading franchise to ensure effective implementation, sustainability, and oversight.

 

What You'll Do

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Evolve and enhance current operating model within the bank for the management of Sales and Trading obligations and their related technical requirements.

  • Provide first line subject matter expertise as it relates to drafting and implementation of the firm’s Global Algo Policy, which will create new requirements across regions and products.

  • Review/maintain/update the firm’s implementation of existing obligation to establish potential regulatory impact; propose business framework improvements and business requirements; drive pragmatic changes.

  • Act as subject matter expert for first line regarding regulatory change and guidance, analyzing communications and policies, and corresponding impact to processes and workflows.

  • Act as a central point of contact and trusted ‘go to’ liaison on behalf of the first line, informing compliance and technology to ensure all teams have an accurate understanding of current, pending, and proposed regulatory developments as they arise and leverage technology to reduce inefficiencies.

  • Interface with domestic and global regulators, internal audit, compliance advisory, business risk management, technology, and COO teams and other functions as Scotia SME who can speak to our processes and platforms with authority. Provide a central point of coordination for corresponding examinations and inquiries.

  • Oversee vendor relationships by managing onboarding, performance monitoring, and compliance with contractual obligations; conduct thorough contract reviews to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, risk standards, and business objectives.

  • Assume first line ownership of development of project plans and implementation/execution of all business remediation actions as required.

  • Provide input and first line SME into development of the firm’s desk policies, procedures and WSPs related to Capital Markets.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • 15 years of experience in Equities specializing in Electronic Trading
  • 15 years experience in Compliance Advisory
