Scotiatrust’s Indigenous Trusts Relationship Team and Centre of Expertise provide a variety of customized fiduciary, agency and custody solutions tailored to the unique needs of Indigenous communities from coast to coast to coast.
As the Trust Officer, Indigenous Trusts, you are a core member of the Scotiatrust Indigenous Trusts Relationship Team based in Calgary and a subject-matter expert for the Indigenous Trusts Centre of Expertise which operates on a national scale. The incumbent is responsible for the management of relationships with Indigenous Trust clients and contributes to deepening and strengthening client relationships by providing clients with tailored solutions that consider and respect their unique needs and the cultural nuances that exist within each Indigenous community we serve. The Trust Officer supports a Senior Trust Officer with the management of an account portfolio of varying size and complexity and has primary responsibility for the day to day management, oversight and account administration for client, beneficiary and trustee relationships.
Is this role right for you? In your role, you:
- Deliver a proactive and personalized client experience to all Indigenous Trust clients assigned to them, by:
- Acting as the central point of contact for their assigned clients.
- Coordinating and participating in various client and account activities including Council and trustee meetings, community information sessions, and trust education programming.
- Supporting the Senior Trust Officer and Senior Manager in preparing and delivering presentations to a wide range of audiences and prospects.
- Assisting the Senior Trust Officer in building and maintaining effective internal and external partnerships, with a view to providing seamless, impactful solutions across a variety of financial service disciplines.
- Contributing to the team’s profitability by assisting with accurate forecasting and timely collection of fees.
- Support the team’s development and onboarding of new Indigenous business to Scotiatrust by:
- Identifying and elevating to the Senior Trust Officer new business opportunities that arise from day-to-day management of Trust account portfolios.
- Assisting the Senior Trust Officer in their efforts to build and enhance Scotiatrust’s profile and relationships with Indigenous communities across our national footprint.
- Establishing and enhancing proactive relationships with internal partners and external COIs to identify and close new business opportunities.
- Ensure ongoing operational excellence in the management of accounts by:
- Limiting corporate risk exposure by ensuring that account administration is carried out proactively and in compliance with defined policies/procedures and audit standards, including the timely escalation of issues to the appropriate internal oversight groups as required.
- Pursuing efficient operations while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet operational, regulatory compliance, AML/ATF and conduct risk pursuant to the Bank’s internal controls and frameworks.
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
