The Manager, Scotia Financial Planning Supervision plays a critical role in Scotia Securities Inc's (SSI) commitment to minimizing defects and regulatory risks at the national level. This position involves working within a team of licensed Branch Compliance Officers (BCOs) and providing support and oversight to the Regional Managers and Financial Planners. The primary focus is to contribute to the National Team's efforts in promoting compliance with BCO Accountabilities and Supervisory Responsibilities. Additionally, the Manager will contribute to enhancing mutual funds subject matter expertise across all registrants and minimizing regulatory risk. The incumbent will also participate in ad-hoc initiatives providing expert knowledge in the understanding and remediation of emerging risks and/or new issues and will be responsible for the sustainment and the promotion of all changes and innovations, in a dynamic regulatory environment.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Develop an annual SSI compliance plans/objectives for assigned Regions, considering factors such as compliance risk in each Region, tolerance thresholds, SSI Testing results, and emerging trends
- Implement oversight activities to support Regions in managing SSI regulatory risk, including a coaching framework, performance considerations with Senior Leadership, monitoring, reporting, and addressing compliance issues proactively
- Assist Regions in preparing for audits or SSI Testing engagements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and the Bank's SSI policies and procedures
- Provide targeted coaching to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and the Bank's SSI policies and procedures
- Participate in Regional meetings to emphasize the importance of a high compliance environment and communicate expected results
- Assist with messaging to keep compliance and best-in-class conduct top-of-mind for all employees
- Ensure leaders have a solid understanding of legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements relevant to their units
- Provide targeted coaching to Mutual Fund Representatives on effective management of SSI defects, promoting efficiency and timely resolution
- Act as a gatekeeper between Regions and Registration to ensure quality and timely submissions
- Escalate issues promptly to ensure resolution
- Participate in ad-hoc initiatives aimed at risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and process improvement
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Post Secondary education and/or professional designations
- 1+ years of Branch Compliance Officer experience
- Branch Compliance Officer (BCO) course is required
- Currently registered as a Mutual Fund Representative is a requirement
- Excellent communication skills both written & verbal
- Experience working with PowerPoint & Excel
- A solid understanding of key existing regulatory requirements and the Bank’s SSI policies and procedures
- Strong organizational capabilities to drive simultaneous priority deliverables
- A proven ability to influence, coordinate and manage expectations with multiple stakeholders as required
- The ability to work in cross functional teams on initiatives and projects of varying scopes
