The Director, Regional Banking supports the Senior Vice President (SVP) and Regional Vice President (RVP) in the day-to-day operation of the Region and in their absence, acts on their behalf. They are instrumental in the implementation of business line strategies, acting as a conduit for a wide range of product and delivery issues and providing direct support to the network as required. They evaluate results to objectives and initiates and directs special initiatives and projects.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Support the design and development of short and medium term initiatives to successfully position Scotiabank within the market to achieve business objectives by:
- Researching, gathering information on competitive intelligence, and market positioning
- Conducting key analysis, developing proposals for significant issues affecting the market area
- Reviewing and providing feedback in response to proposals being put forward through the Districts and recommending to the SVP for their decision
- Tailoring Domestic Banking proposals to better fit the needs of the region
- Direct the implementation of initiatives/projects in support of the business objectives by:
- Ensuring clear, concise communication messaging and materials are developed to support implementation
- Ensuring all key internal business partners are participants in the process at the appropriate stage and level
- Coordinating activities and liaising with team members to ensure objectives are accomplished within prescribed timeframes and funding parameters
- Provide comprehensive analysis of proposals/business cases/profit plans/goal plans to support the SVP and RVP in achieving the regions’ vision and mission by:
- Reviewing project proposals or plans to determine applicability, timing, and funding availability
- Documenting a summary of findings, ensuring clarity and substantiation of proposals plans being presented for consideration
- Researching and developing commentary on variances as required
- Updating SVP and RVP on trends and conditions and recommending tactical responses to negative trends
- Provide direction, guidance and advice to members of the senior team and customers within the Region and with our partners.
- Support compliance with regulatory and internal Bank guidelines by monitoring results through review, analysis and trending of reports and coordinating corrective actions to audit findings.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
- Thorough knowledge of Canada’s financial services marketplace and a detailed understanding of their Region’s market areas and competitive positioning within those markets. To complement this knowledge a thorough understanding of the Domestic Bank’s objectives, strategies and structures is required.
- The ability to build and maintain business relationships is essential, along with the ability to negotiate, influence and persuade others. Incumbent must possess tactical planning, execution and organization skills. In addition, proven success as a Branch Manager helps ensure credibility in dealing with issues during the SVP’s absence.
- To support the SVP and RVP on initiatives / proposals the incumbent needs to understand the value of research and analysis to support/identify issues and solutions. Strong analytical skills are essential. To expand on ideas and approaches, thinking creatively is also an asset in this role.
- Strong PC skills and familiarity with word processing, presentation, spreadsheet software and planning tools are necessary.
- Must be able to effectively articulate their views to all levels within the Bank. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Expert knowledge of Retail & Business Banking products and services
- Thorough knowledge of branch systems such as Sales Builder, Intralink and RIS
- Working knowledge of products and services provided by the Bank’s specialized sales forces and other delivery channels such as Wealth Management, Mortgage Delivery, Contact Centers etc
- Working knowledge of products and services offered by other financial institutions and niche competitors
- Working knowledge of services provided by support areas such as Shared Services
