Purpose

 

The role of CSA contributes to the overall success of the Commercial Bank in Canada, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives while also ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

The Credit Solutions Associate (CSA) provides the Client Relationship Managers with end-to-end credit underwriting support for all growth clients in their assigned portfolio. This will include working with internal partners and directly reaching out to clients to address various activities such as collection/processing of financial reporting, satisfaction of funding requirements, onboarding needs and resolution of escalated client challenges. The role is specific to the Growth Segment and the less complex Core clients in Commercial Banking Distribution.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Working closely with Client Relationship Managers, the Credit Solutions Associate (CSA) is responsible for providing the following services to a portfolio of existing and prospective clients:

 

Credit Analysis and Evaluation

  • Work closely with Client Relationship Managers and other team members to understand client needs and develop tailored credit solutions.
  • Conduct thorough credit analysis and evaluation of loan applications including required due diligence from commercial clients.
  • Assess the financial health, creditworthiness, and risk profile of potential borrowers.
  • Prepare detailed credit reports and recommendations for credit approval or denial.
  • Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documentation to identify potential risks and opportunities.

 

Fulfilment & Funding

  • Coordinating efforts with the client and various internal partners (e.g., RBBO - BSC, EDDU, CRA, GBM) to ensure loan fundings are fulfilled as per customer expectations.
  • Assist with completion of conditions precedent.

 

Portfolio Monitoring:

  • Monitor and manage the credit risk portfolio, ensuring compliance with the bank’s risk management policies and procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate potential credit risks through proactive monitoring and analysis.
  • Contact clients for financial reporting and spread Financial Statements, Projections and Borrowing bases, review results, escalate any signs of deterioration and update appropriate systems.

 

Compliance:

  • Ensure all documentation is organized, accessible, and compliant with the bank’s recordkeeping policies.
  • Ensure all credit analysis and evaluation processes comply with relevant regulatory requirements, internal process, policy and guidelines.
  • Stay up to date with changes in regulatory frameworks, internal process, policy, guidelines and industry best practices.

 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the credit analysis function. This may include actioning feedback received directly from clients or through client satisfaction vehicles such as the Pulse. Supporting their leadership Team Lead, Credit and Regional Director, Credit as required.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance knowledge and skills in credit analysis and risk management.

 

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-today activities and decisions.

 

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Dimensions:

 

The clients being serviced are in Canada and generally within the same region although they could have operations across the country as well as in international locations. These clients will be both borrowing (under $5MM) and non-borrowing. Borrowing Clients typically have standard to moderately complex financial solutions.

 

Manages significant data from multiple sources and balance various tasks from client service administration to borrower reporting processing to credit related support.

 

Receive requests from the Team Lead, Credit but may also at times be requested to support Regional Director, Credit and Vice Presidents in the Commercial Banking group.

 

Interacts with Client Relationship Manager on credit related activities with the following partners: Business Banking Operations, Enhanced Due Diligence Unit, CRA and Global Banking and Markets and could have some interaction with Global Risk Management and other partners as well as the Commercial Banking Executive Office.

 

Interacts with external parties such as Solicitors, Accountants, Professional Service Providers.

 

Providing service consistent with Scotia Service Standards, Complaint Resolution Standards and Procedures. The CSA looks for opportunities to promote the sale of bank product and services.

 

Education/Experience/Other Information:

 

Education:

 

  • College/University degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.

 

Skills/Work Experience:

 

  • Knowledge of Financial Statements and credit analysis.
  • Knowledge of credit structures and applicable risk management.
  • Good knowledge of fulfilment processes and roles of partners.
  • Strong commitment to excellent client service and ability to work with clients to resolve issues in an amicable and prompt manner.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Good knowledge of Commercial Banking partners and their involvement in servicing clients. In particular knowledge of the Business Service Center, Enhanced Due Diligence Team and Cash Management teams is important.
  • Good knowledge of the Commercial Banking Distribution structure as well as role of other groups within Commercial Banking (Roynat, Real Estate, Leasing etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of the applicable software and technology platforms for Commercial (e.g., Sales Force, Intralink, Teams).
  • Working knowledge of the features and benefits of Commercial products and services.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong client and partner relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to obtain agreements within Commercial Banking and partners.
  • Strong written and verbal skills with proven ability to engage stakeholders and clients.
  • Strong knowledge of Onboarding, Know Your Customer, Anti Money Laundering processes.
  • A high degree of flexibility to adapt to a wide variety of tasks.
  • Strong commitment to accuracy, customer focus and results focus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

 

Working Conditions

 

Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. No travel.

The environment is fast-paced and demanding and will at times require priorities be re-adjusted to accommodate urgent requests.
