The Associate, Healthcare & Professional Banking provides day-to-day support to Specialists by managing routine client servicing, administrative coordination, and straightforward sales and operational tasks across assigned portfolios. The role contributes to onboarding, client relationship management, portfolio administration, and the delivery of banking solutions, while ensuring all activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Consistently deliver the highest level of service and advice during all client interactions by:
    • Demonstrating a passion for engaging with healthcare and professional clients, delivering exceptional experiences and advice
    • Developing a full knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s small business and retail products, services, processes, and policies.
    • Maintaining an acute focus on responding quickly and resourcefully to client requests, ensuring first time right, speed, and ease.
  • Contribute to the onboarding and management of client relationships, providing a full range of customized financial solutions by:
    • Accompanying HCP Specialists on client meetings in the field 1-2 times per week and calls on a regular basis.
    • Through deep discovery, understanding the client’s financial goals and preferences, analyzing their needs and recommending the appropriate solutions.
    • Providing end-to-end support over advice-based solutions including account opening, investments, credit cards, lines of credits
    • Identifying opportunities to expand existing relationships and make referrals to partners in response to changes in the client’s needs or preferences.
    • Maintain accurate pipeline tracking and follow-ups
  • Support the HCP Specialist team’s assigned portfolio of less complex credits by:
    • Developing a thorough knowledge and understanding of business banking (SPP) and retail credit principles.
    • Participating in the thorough evaluation of the client’s borrowing needs and strategies, income sources and capacity to formulate a concise credit proposal for adjudication.
    • Understanding credit principles and financial analysis for financing requests
    • Administering Scotia Professional Plan product solutions, including Term Loans, Credit Cards, LOCs and other eligible products
    • Support deposit growth through money-in opportunities including reviewing OFI balances, significant deposit leads, and other referral sources
    • Support funding, amendments, and post-funding servicing under Specialist direction
    • Monitoring financial status and proactively identifying unfavorable trends, escalating as required.
  • Execute end-to-end client servicing and operational delivery across assigned portfolios by:
    • Managing day-to-day client service requests with a focus on speed, accuracy, and first-time-right execution
    • Supporting core banking activities across accounts, transactions, credit, and investment servicing, including setup, maintenance, and fulfillment
    • Coordinating execution across internal partners (e.g., branches, operations, documentation workflows) to ensure seamless and timely delivery of client needs
    • Resolving client inquiries received via the Relationship Manager channel, proactively managing follow-ups and escalating complex issues or risks as required
    • Maintaining accurate records, documentation, and system updates while ensuring adherence to operational, compliance, and risk management standards
  • Minimize the Bank’s exposure to risk by:
    • Contributing to operational excellence and a satisfactory audit of our HCP transits.
    • Staying current on retail and business banking lending compliance, regulatory compliance, and custody requirements and changes.
    • Adhering to compliance with regulatory activities and guidance over Occupational Health & Safety.
    • Ensuring strict adherence to Bank security procedures, including retail/small business lending policies and processes, assigned authorities and limits.
    • Escalating fraudulent activities, unusual occurrences, issues/deficiencies/trends to your direct supervisor and/or AML and/or Branch Compliance Officer (BCO) or applicable Department as appropriate.
    • Apply heightened diligence when supporting transactional or funding-related activities
    • Support the review and defect management, including BCAT, SBH platforms, annual reviews and PRR reporting
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • 3-5 years Retail or Business banking experience and University or community college degree preferred.
  • Financially sophisticated, demanding and results oriented business.
  • Thorough knowledge of all retail and business banking (SPP) product solutions and services available for healthcare and professional clients
  • Thorough knowledge of business banking credit principles
  • Thorough understanding investment vehicles.
  • Ability to engage with professional clientele in both business and social settings, demonstrating a high degree of poise and professionalism.
  • Expert interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop solid partner and client relationships.
  • High degree of flexibility to adapt to a wide variety of tasks and functions.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn and navigate a variety of Bank systems.
  • Ability to work independently and confidently within the authority and limits assigned
  • Sensitivity to client needs and privacy; ability to skillfully position enhanced due diligence to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Ongoing development of skills with continued business development and specialized credit knowledge facilitated through successful HCP Specialists and Leadership.
  • Will be required to travel to client sites on a regular basis as the role requires

 

Working Conditions

 

Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.  The position is primarily non-physical; however, travel will be required at a minimum of 1-2 times per week for client meetings.
