Purpose
The Training Specialist supports the Bank’s Capital Markets and Corporate Banking Operations (Global Wholesale Operations – “GWO”) by designing, delivering, and continuously improving learning and development programs for new employee onboarding and ongoing career development. The role contributes to the GWO Learning Program through needs assessments, development and delivery of learning solutions. It also tracks, measures and reports on learning outcomes to meet business and regulatory requirements, while ensuring compliance with learning standards, internal policies, and governing regulations. The Training Specialist helps develop a GWO curriculum and learning plans to further career paths for a global audience, and builds strong partnerships across Scotiabank. Acting as a strategic business partner, the role proactively identifies learning needs, drives programs that build critical operations skills, provides advisory support on learning solutions and learner experience, and monitors learning effectiveness aligned to future operational needs.
Accountabilities
Operational Enablement & Business Alignment
• Design and deliver role based training programs that enable effective execution across Global Wholesale Operations, including amongst others: Periodic Refresh, Capital Markets Operations, Corporate Loan Services, Middle Office, and Derivative & FX Settlements.
• Partner with Operations leaders, SMEs, and change teams to translate complex processes, products, and regulatory requirements into practical, job ready learning solutions.
• Ensure training supports end to end operational workflows, handoffs, and dependencies across front, middle, and back office functions.
Risk, Control & Regulatory Readiness
• Embed risk awareness, control expectations, and regulatory obligations (e.g., KYC/Periodic Refresh, trade lifecycle controls, settlements risk) into all relevant training curricula.
• Align learning content with the Bank’s risk appetite, operational risk framework, conduct standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Support audit, regulatory, and control remediation efforts by ensuring training gaps are identified, addressed, and evidenced.
Curriculum Design & Continuous Improvement
• Develop and maintain a structured GWO learning curriculum, including onboarding pathways, role specific training, and progression based learning aligned to career paths.
• Continuously assess training effectiveness through feedback, performance indicators, and operational outcomes, and adjust programs accordingly.
• Adapt learning approaches, materials, and delivery methods to reflect changes in products, systems, processes, policies, and regulatory expectations.
Training Delivery & Knowledge Transfer
• Deliver instructor led, virtual, and blended learning sessions for general, specialized, and mandatory training across GWO.
• Ensure training materials are accurate, current, and fit for purpose, with a strong focus on practical application and operational scenarios.
• Support knowledge transfer during new initiatives, system changes, process redesigns, and business transitions.
Stakeholder Partnership & Advisory Support
• Act as a trusted advisor to Operations leaders on learning strategies, training needs, and workforce capability development.
• Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders including Operations, Risk, Compliance, HR, and Change teams to ensure learning solutions are aligned and scalable.
• Provide guidance on learner experience, training effectiveness, and capability gaps impacting operational performance.
Governance, Reporting & Records Management
• Maintain accurate training records, completion tracking, and evidence to support regulatory, audit, and internal governance requirements.
• Prepare training reports and insights for management, highlighting trends, risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
• Ensure all training activities comply with internal learning standards, policies, and governance frameworks.
Operational Excellence & Culture
• Contribute to a high performance, inclusive operations environment by supporting capability building, role clarity, and professional development.
• Promote consistent ways of working across GWO by reinforcing standardized processes, controls, and best practices through training.
• Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and resilience through targeted learning.
Education
- Education or certification in Business, Finance, Economics, Operations Management or a related discipline
- Education or certification in Learning & Development, Adult Education, Instructional Design, or Organizational Development (preferred)
- Training or coursework in financial markets, wholesale banking, or operations (strongly preferred)
- Professional certifications are an asset
Experience
- Experience in training, learning enablement, or capability development within a complex, regulated organization
- Experience supporting Operations, Capital Markets, Corporate Banking, or similar financial services operations
- Ability to design and deliver role‑based, operationally focused training for front‑to‑back processes (middle office, settlements, servicing, KYC/Periodic Refresh)
- Hands‑on experience translating complex operational processes, products, and controls into practical learning solutions
- Experience partnering with Operations, SMEs, Risk, Compliance, and Change teams in a matrixed, global environment
- Track record of supporting training for new initiatives, system implementations, process changes, or regulatory remediation efforts
- Experience measuring training effectiveness and linking learning outcomes to operational performance, risk reduction, or control effectiveness
- Comfort working with global teams across multiple regions and time zones
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence operational stakeholders
- Experience working in environments with regulatory scrutiny, controls, and operational risk sensitivity
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Bilingual: English B2 and Spanish
Working Conditions
Works in a standard office environment; overtime work is a frequent practice
