Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of Caribbean Technology Retail Statements and AFAS team, supporting Caribbean, Central America, and Uruguay, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities 

•    Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

•    Work closely with end users, and business teams to understand business needs, conduct gap analysis and requirements assessments as needed

•    Partner with Architecture on the design and integration

•    Deliver and enhance new and current solutions and applications

•    Be involved in the full life cycle of a project, responsible for producing actionable and complete specifications, writing production quality code, and implementation

•    Design, deliver and implement a database schema

•    Are familiar with AI fundamentals

•    Design test sets and automate where possible, including functional and nonfunctional testing, regression testing as well as performance testing

•    Write deployment scripts and leverage tools such as the Accelerator pipeline to promote code

•    Improve the end user experience by finding scalable solutions and addressing complex ad hoc queries

•    Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences

•    Able to work with and refactor legacy code 

•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information 

•    Solid English communication skills, both oral and written (B2 minimum), and comfortable in a primarily English work environment
•    +3 years of Software development experience in Java, J2EE, Spring Boot (Micro Services), Web Services (SOAP & REST)
•    You have experience with unit-testing, code for robustness, usability and improving application performance
•    Solid understanding of developing large-scale software applications, considering security and scalability requirements
•    You have a proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as GIT
•    You are familiar with CI/CD and DevOps best practices
•    You have knowledge on Kubernetes and Docker
•    Strong command in Computer Science concepts (SOLID, etc.)
•    Experience in integrating Third Party libraries and SDKs
•    Experience building applications that consume web services and HTTP REST interaction with JSON
•    Experience working on multiple initiatives concurrently
•    Experience working remotely in distributed project engagements
•    Experience in banking or financial industry is an asset
•    Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technology field
