Purpose

 

Contributes to the overall success of the Canadian Banking Engineering team (CBE) globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  

CBE team is responsible for the implementation, support and maintenance of the Canadian Banking applications, including platforms that are related to money generation and compliance/regulatory processes. Our team is looking for an individual to take over Liquid Office platform installation, maintenance and support, and be able to help support users as well as other teams that interact with Forms, Statements and Letters. These platforms support both branch employees and customers to deliver digital communication for workflows and for customers’ detailed account information.


Accountabilities 

 

•    Understanding the business area and user requirements
•    Conduct and provide support during Integrated Systems Testing, Quality Assurance Testing and Production deployment, mainly focused on Liquid Office platform.  
•    Producing documentation based on the company's standards.
•    Design (and leverage where exists) reusable frameworks - environment management and layout design.
•    Adheres to security best practices.
•    Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

•    Manage own development timelines and many related tasks.
•    Ensure all tasks are worked to completion. 
•    Demonstrate strong knowledge of Agile and/or Waterfall development methodologies.

 

Education, Experience & Skills 

 

Education:

•    Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related discipline.

 

Experience:

•    Experience or knowledge of the Full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in project environments. Recent graduates from technical programs with equivalent knowledge will also be considered.
•    Solid development, hands-on experience on UI Design and Implementation, Code Management
•    Experience or knowledge of Core Java / J2EE web application development, with the following aptitude:


o    Java, J2EE, JavaScript – Open JDK
o    API/Web Services (REST & SOAP) development, ability to create / consume SOAP / REST web services
o    JBoss
o    XML
o    Spring Boot (Micro Services) 
o    Apache Tomcat including Servlet container, AXIS and Batik from Apache Software Foundation
o    Unit Testing (Junit)
o    Security best practices (HTTPS/TLS, OAuth authentication, SSO/SAML 2.0, API security), LDAP.
o    Familiarity with major transport protocols: FTP, SFTP and other SSH connectivity tools.
o    Active MQ
o    GCP (Google Cloud Platform), Google Cloud Engine (CGE), Atlas or other Cloud technologies
o    Tools (Jira, TFS, Confluence, Azure devops pipeline, Jenkins, Artifactory, BitBucket, SonarQube, GIT, Maven / Gradle)
o    API testing tools like SOAPUI, postman, LoadUI
o    Strong knowledge of major RDBMS systems. SQL Server (5 years +) and PostGreSQL.
o    Familiarity with multiple external Java frameworks is a plus (Spring, Struts, Log4J, etc.) working on data transformation. 

•    Knowledge of Liquid Office and some other OpenText platform is desirable, but not mandatory. The Bank will provide full training.

Skills:

•    JBoss and Apache Tomcat application Server administration 
•    Expertise in designing and building applications using cloud native and Microservices architecture
•    Have a proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git, Maven build
•    Debugging, performance optimization and problem-solving abilities
•    Language proficiency in English is highly desired
