Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Human Resources Technology / Solution Architecture & Engineering in Colombia and Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities 

•    Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
•    Develop and unit test applications in accordance with established standards.
•    Apply best development and design practices and participate in peer reviews of solution designs and related code.
•    Work with teammates to migrate older applications to current Java and cloud technologies 
•    Develop, refine, and tune continuous integrations between applications.
•    Analyze and resolve technical and application defects with excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills.
•    Assess opportunities for application and process improvement and prepare documentation of rationale to share with team members and other affected parties.
•    Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on time.
•    Provide third-level support to business users.

•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)

•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (nice to have)
•    3+ years of experience as a software developer (must)
•    Extensive experience in object-oriented software design and development (must)
•    Proficient with Java technologies, including but not limited to cloud, Web Services, supporting frameworks, and UI tools (must)
•    Experience with unit testing frameworks (nice to have)
•    Strong experience in Microsoft SQL Server, database design and development; experience with data migration tools is considered a strong asset. 
•    Understanding of cloud-hosted environments like GCP, Atlas, Azure is considered a strong asset.
•    Experience with Java-based applications and services are considered a strong asset.
•    Comprehensive understanding of object-oriented application development techniques and theories.
•    Knowledge of service-oriented architecture and relational databases, including database theory, and a strong understanding of business data structures
•    English Level: B1+
