Purpose

The position contributes to the overall success of the team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. 

The position will work on an internal built system/s for wholesale trade positions and activities captured from several trading systems and through series of transformations the reporting datasets are built for enhanced analytics, client value reporting, customer profitability, and performance management. 

 

The position requires solid technical background and skills with good understanding of wholesale banking products and trading systems concepts, leveraging the skill set to architect and support scalable processes and data solutions by following Bank’s standards, policies and industry best practices.

 

The position is responsible for providing both projects as well as operational support for client analytics processes running on a daily/monthly basis to provide accurate client profitability results for the GBM and Canadian Banking work-force through the designated CRM application (SalesForce).

 

The incumbent must be a creative, self-starting, results-oriented, excellent communication skills, and highly curious motivated individual with leadership skills and evolved technical skills which will be used to resolve complex business and system problems.

 

Accountabilities

  • The incumbent acts as technical resource in projects, providing assessments, recommendations, and development of technical solutions for the sourcing, delivery, and processing of required monthly/daily data sources within a distributed technical architecture (including Hadoop/’big data’ environment) to support client profitability and analytics for wholesale customers.  This includes the technical development of the data infrastructure, and providing ongoing operational oversight required to model, load, map, and prepare volumes of daily/monthly data for downstream reporting and analytics.

 

  • The incumbent works to continuously optimize operating efficiency for assigned applications and databases, making recommendations towards the development of new database code or refactoring and reuse of existing database code, and providing technical support in troubleshooting application including data, database, or server related problems.

 

  • Supported by knowledge of wholesale business products and detailed understanding of Bank source applications, the incumbent uses technical knowledge and insights to design operationally stable processes that extract, transform, and map raw data to organized/structured schemas for the purpose of consistent reporting and analytics.

 

  • The incumbent supports technical peers in the team and collaborate with business partners, data engineers and cross functional IT teams to deliver complex, creative, cost-effective and robust operationally stable data solutions.  This includes development of complex queries against big data that are required to ensure data are accessible for analytics and reporting by the data teams, as well as providing oversight of reporting solutions using Tableau, and/or other industry standard BI tools.

 

 

  • The incumbent provides acceptance testing support to complex technical problems on all assigned processes and technology that supports client profitability & analytics by analysing problems, implementing solutions and developing new procedures surrounding support.  The incumbent may be required to perform operational support after hours from time-to-time in order to debug and support operational processes.

 

 

  • The incumbent is expected to function independently combining technical expertise and business knowledge to recommend, develop and implement technical solutions and also identify opportunities for automation or efficiency in ETL processes. The incumbent may receive general direction from Director/Senior Manager/Project Managers/Business Analysts for the projects assigned.

 

  • The incumbent is to ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures, while championing a customer focused culture that deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. They understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. They also actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational compliance of AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Dimensions

 

  • Responsible for making recommendations and contribute within the development of medium to complex analytics projects in multiple environments/platforms (Linux/Python/Scala/Spark/Hadoop/mySQL/PostgresSQL/Hive/Unix/DevOps using Bitbucket/Jira/Jenkins) and supporting the sourcing and methodologies / ETL for 25+ application sources supporting Global Banking and Markets and Canadian Banking business lines in their client profitability and analytical processes. 

 

  • Strong understanding of many aspects of Information Technology including software development life cycle, various environment for unit-testing, integrated system test, user acceptance test, backup and recovery, failover, agile methodologies etc.

 

  • Knowledge of Wholesale banking and dimensions including trading/banking products, client relationship, profitability and risk metrics, as well as understanding of CRM application (like SalesForce)

 

 

 

 

 

Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)

  • A Bachelor / Master degree in a computer / software engineering / computer science discipline.

 

  • 7+ years of practical progressive experience in developing, supporting and deploying complex systems using latest technologies is essential.

 

  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal skills, experience working in a team setting
  • Must have progressive IT experience with minimum of 5 years of advanced programming experience on range of latest technologies/platform (Python, Postgres/mySQL/Hive databases, SQL programming, Linux/Unix/Shell scripts, Scala, Spark, HDFS, Airflow, Django, Tableau, concept of cloud platform).

 

  • Must have working experience of development and deployment tools for DevOps (e.g. Pycharm/IntelliJ, Bitbucket/Github, Jenkins/Teamcity, JIRA, Confluence). With ability to debug and test on local windows machine as well as on linux/unix application server.

 

  • Must have demonstrated advanced database related programming skills. Ability to understand, modify and develop database programming code to support systems requirements and applications.

 

  • Must possess strong problem solving skills, including the ability to identify critical issues, prioritize and apply technology and industry practices in ways that are most beneficial to Scotiabank.

 

  • Must be self-starting, results oriented and highly motivated individual with good analytical skills in order to understand and resolve business issues.

 

  • Working knowledge of BI tools like Tableau and PowerBI would be an asset.
