Purpose


Supports the Technology Finance Operations & Control function for the International Banking Technology & Transformation (IBTT) team across the International Banking footprint developing, implementing, and monitoring budgets to ensure financial targets are met.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Budget Management: Overseeing IBTT’s IT budget (OPEX & TSA), including forecasting, tracking expenditures, and ensuring cost-effective use of resources, this includes but is not limited to:
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Developing, implementing, and monitoring budgets to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Cost Management: Identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing measures to control expenses
  • Financial Analysis: Proficiency in analyzing financial data to support decision-making.
  • Investment Analysis: Evaluating investment opportunities (i.e. Business Cases) and making recommendations to senior management.
  • Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Performance Reporting: Creating and delivering regular reports on IT Budgets performance and key metrics to senior management. This includes identifying areas for improvement and making data-driven recommendations.
  • Executive Reporting: Creating reports that have a clear purpose, provide accuracy and precision, are concise, and include both positive and negative findings with relevant insights.
  • Leadership: Leads and drives a client focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. 
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensuring that all activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and bank’s policies. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Policy Adherence: Enforce IT policies and procedures.
  • Audit and Review: Support bank’s audits and reviews to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Finding continuous improvement opportunities to streamline and automate key control points in critical processes.
  • Client-Centric: Delivers a differentiated experience that creates value for our clients. Provides value to clients by developing innovative solutions and concrete business plans. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of IT professionals.
  • Change Management: Drive change initiatives to improve IT processes and systems.
  • Innovation: Foster a culture of innovation within the IT department.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s
  • Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

    Dimensions

  • Supports International Banking’s footprint (Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Central America, Caribbean)
  • Multiple conflicting priorities involving multiple stakeholders across different countries
  • Simultaneous reporting needs including both scheduled and on demand.
  • Works with high level of autonomy and is a key referent for the International Banking Leadership concerning IBTT’s financial health 


Education / Experience / Other Information 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Business, Finance, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Min (3) years / Five (5) + years of experience in the field of strategic financial planning and reporting.
  • Solid understanding of IT Financial Management standards
  • Proven quantitative/financial analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills – oral and written, including the ability to articulate findings/analysis and present ideas in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Experience in producing and delivering Executive Level Reporting
  • Strong understanding of the Bank’s Risk Culture and Risk Appetite
  • Excellent project management, organizational and time management skills with proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Advanced Excel (must have) and PowerBI, power query (nice to have) skills including but not limited to Pivot Tables, Data Analytics, Importing
  • Data, Manipulating Data, Data Modeling, Table Relationships and Data Visualization
  • Experience using FP&A Tools (e.g. Anaplan, TM1, Essbase, Apptio, etc.) (nive to have) 
  • Financial institution experience is an asset
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a strong asset
