Purpose
The Manager, Strategic Portfolio Office (SPO), contributes to the ongoing success of Global Transaction Banking’s strategy by ensuring strategic initiatives are executed in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

 

Accountabilities 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Manage complex projects with stakeholders that span multiple cross-functional teams, the incumbent will be responsible to ensure project expenses are properly accounted and recorded as per the Business Case scope. 
  • Coordinate the necessary activities, including obtaining Project Sponsor approvals to process invoices on time or accrue expenses in the respective financial cycle, e.g., monthly or quarterly.
  • Partner with internal teams (product, technology, finance) to track, monitor and report on key metrics of major business initiatives and projects including project schedule, project milestones, project financials to improve accuracy of forecast vs. actuals, and provide guidance and support on budget, cost, and benefits analysis.
  • Support the development of various management reports including dashboards, KPI monitoring and tracking, financial trend analysis, and monthly project financial reporting for both, Operating Budget Transits and Projects, including variance analysis against forecast and work with PMs and other stakeholders to take actions to reduce variability within appropriate thresholds.
  • Support the End-to-End governance of the SPO’s Investment Portfolio through adherence to the Enterprise Delivery Framework, including involvement in Annual Investment Portfolio planning, ideation, maintenance of records in the Project Portfolio Management database, supporting project managers in business case development and post-implementation reviews as well as Operating Budget planning.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Dimensions

  • SIP Investment Envelope of ~$250MM per year
  • Portfolio of ~40 to ~60 projects per year across Canada, US, Europe and Latinoamerica (Mexico, Peru, Chile, Uruguay) and the Caribbean.

 

 

Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)

  • Business finance acumen and understanding of Bank’s operating models for managing projects.
  • PMP (not excluding) or project management experience of multi-year complex technology projects.
  • Working knowledge of Agile principles, cadences and processes.
  • Strong technical skills: Data analysis; advanced knowledge of Excel, including experience with database concepts and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI), and Project Management tools (CA PPM).
  • English level advanced.

Work in a standard office-based environment; occasional non-standard hours.  
Travel is not required for this role.
