Purpose


Leads and oversees Finance Services operations in Colombia ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.


Accountabilities


• Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their teams to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Leads and oversees the Finance Services Unit in Colombia ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
• Directly contribute to the close, consolidate and reporting activities of the Unit by reviewing specific entries requiring that due to their complexity requiring her/his approvals (e.g. provisions, accruals, etc.); preparing entries requiring sophisticated reconciliations; providing direction, expertise and technical support for any accounting / reporting questions raised by staff; reviewing / conducting variance analysis of trial balances to sign-off and ensure integrity of results; reviewing and signing-off prepared tax returns for in-scope subsidiaries; and reviewing audited / non-audited Financial statements prepared by team.
• Perform reasonability analysis, and approvals for key balances at month / quarter / year-end to ensure integrity of results for a select group of BNS subsidiaries.
• Ensures team are meeting the key deadlines outlined within financial schedules for monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting.
• Provide direction on any identified reporting issues potentially affecting BNS Subsidiaries’ results.
• Oversee the team’s quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements and note disclosures, to ensure submission for all BNS in-scope subsidiaries.
• Review select subsidiary tax returns for accuracy.
• Review and sing-off of select, highly critical subsidiary regulatory reports (OSFI, OSC, IROC).
• Stay up-to-date on accounting requirements and asses impact of new requirements on the operation under her/his scope.
• Ensure any new reporting requirements are implemented within the team processes and relevant documentation is being updated.
• Identify process improvement opportunities for team and escalate to the Director for consideration.
• Act as manager on select process improvement projects.
• Gather business / user requirements for applicable financial systems and escalate to Director for consideration.

• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Creates an environment in which her/his team pursues effective and efficient operations of her/his respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
• Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
• Evaluate and generate the attestation of the reports and submit them to the regulators. Identify, prioritize, analyze, remediate, and escalate (if necessary) any issues related to the regulatory reporting process.

• The Senior Manager position acts as a steward for a select group of BNS subsidiaries, responsible for ensuring results are presented accurately and in accordance with IFRS standards. The position oversees the end-to-end accounting operations for a group of BNS subsidiaries that share similar regulatory requirements, from daily source system journal entries, to close, consolidation and report. This includes the management of financial statements and notes preparation, tax filing and regulatory returns preparation for audited subsidiaries.
• Experience preparing and reviewing audited financial statements.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and ability to understand financial statements, their components and disclosure requirements (IFRS).
• Experience reviewing / preparing regulatory reports (OSFI/OSC/IROC).
• Knowledge of the Bank’s general ledger / source systems (SG, SmartStream SUN, PeopleSoft, and EGL).
• Proactive and in search of permanent improvement solutions.

Education / Experience / Other Information 


• BS Degree in Accounting or Finance related field
• 8 to 10 years’ experience, preferable in similar positions
• Experience preparing and reviewing audited financial statements and MD&A
• Fluent English essential, very good written and verbal English skills to communicate with English speaking team in a daily basis
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and ability to understand financial statements, their components and disclosure requirements (IFRS)
• Knowledge of the Bank’s general ledger / source systems
• Experience reviewing / preparing tax returns
• Relevant experience leading accounting processes, with demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience managing teams of finance professionals
