Title: Data Analyst Specialist
Requisition ID: 271655
Employee Referral Program – Potential Reward: $200.00
We are committed to investing in our employees and helping you continue your career at ScotiaTech.
Purpose
The Data Analyst Specialist helps the Data Engineering team discover, explore, and make sense of data for International Banking. In this hands-on role, you will find and understand the data we have, check its quality, and clearly explain what it means to engineers, business experts (SMEs), and other stakeholders. You will also help map how data connects across systems so the team can build reliable data products. Reporting to the Senior Data Engineer, you play a key role in helping the team navigate and understand our data—including as we modernize our platforms and move data into Harbour (Azure Databricks).
Accountabilities
-
Discover and explore data: Find, review, and explore datasets to understand what data we have, where it lives, and how it is used, spotting useful patterns and any issues.
-
Understand and explain data: Learn what the data means and clearly explain its content, structure, and business context to engineers, SMEs, and stakeholders in simple terms.
-
Map data across systems: Help map how data connects from one system to another—including from legacy and GCP sources to the new Databricks platform—documenting the key details the team needs.
-
Check data quality: Review data for quality issues (missing values, duplicates, errors), and help clean and prepare it so it is ready to use.
-
Work within the medallion architecture: Help profile and explore raw data in the Bronze layer, support data quality and cleansing toward the Silver layer, and work with SMEs to make sure Gold (business-ready) data is accurate and clearly understood.
-
Work with the experts (SMEs): Talk to business experts to understand their needs and the meaning of the data, and write down clear requirements for the engineering team.
-
Build reports and dashboards: Create simple reports and dashboards (for example in Power BI) to share insights and progress with the team and stakeholders.
-
Track data availability: Help keep a clear view of what data is available, pending, or missing—by country, source, and owner—so the team can act quickly.
-
Document your work: Keep clear notes on data sources, meaning, and steps, and help add this information to the data catalog (Unity Catalog) so others can find and trust it.
-
Follow good practices: Apply data governance, security, and quality guidelines, and ask for guidance when unsure.
