Purpose


Contribute to the overall success of the AML Operations Unit in Bogotá, Colombia by ensuring the execution of specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives in support of the team’s strategies and objectives. Ensure that all activities performed comply with established standards, internal policies, and procedures.
The Senior Analyst will investigate and evaluate client relationships to identify potential financial, reputational, operational, and/or compliance risks, as well as activities that may involve money laundering or terrorist financing risks.
Based on Global Operations needs and assignments, and within a client-focused culture, the Senior Analyst may cover, for Canadian and/or international banking, one or more of the activities described herein in areas such as SWAT – Transaction Monitoring Quality Control, Level 2, Sanctions and QC of Enhanced Due Diligence, Name Screening, and Demarket, among others.

 

General Responsibilities

 

  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations while ensuring the adequacy, adherence, and effectiveness of daily business controls to meet obligations related to operational risk, regulatory compliance, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing (AML/ATF), and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory
  • Compliance Risk Management Framework, Global AML Handbook, and Code of Conduct Guidelines.
    Investigate and analyze transactions or identify unusual patterns of international payment activity and/or trade finance activity by applying expert knowledge to assess operational and AML risk exposure.
  • Help ensure that the Bank complies with AML regulatory obligations to detect and report suspicious activities.
    Prepare risk assessment reports or spreadsheets for management review describing suspicious money laundering typologies, scope of investigation, risk evaluation, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Conduct thorough analysis to support a reasoned, accurate, and consistent evaluation aligned with the risk rating assigned to each case.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of AML policies and procedures, money laundering and terrorist financing, regulations, industry best practices, criminal typologies, and emerging trends.
  • Help mitigate financial and reputational risk related to the Bank.
  • Support business line colleagues and promptly respond to requests and concerns from partners and stakeholders (including Security & Investigations and Shared Services) in evaluating and resolving cases.
  • Maintain expected productivity and quality standards defined through performance metrics.
  • Prepare written risk assessment reports and case memoranda for executive and/or audit purposes. Recommend remediation plans.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daily activities and decisions.
  • Stay up to date with trends, typologies, and legislative changes by participating in AML training sessions and accessing industry resources.
  • Contribute to the development and/or identification of typologies based on significant cases.
  • Ensure all alert corrections are completed within established timelines.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, technology, and systems, and participate in implementation efforts.
  • Perform quality control reviews on case adjudication and preparation, ensuring all relevant documentation is included in the case management system.
  • Carry out case adjudication to close or escalate for further review; oversee analysts' information requests as needed; maintain records in accordance with regulatory and departmental requirements.
  • Monitor case service levels and escalate to the Manager as needed.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Transaction Monitoring (SWAT)

Review complex and “risk-scored” alerts to close or escalate them. Request information from other business units when necessary and collaborate accordingly.
Perform QA (Quality Assurance) reviews on alert adjudication and preparation, ensuring all supporting documentation is included.
Contribute to overall Triage team performance by ensuring SLA compliance per SOP and OPC guidelines in coordination with FIU and AML Risk.
Participate in ad hoc or administrative tasks.
Provide expertise and training on alert investigations and SOP procedures. Serve as a point of contact for analyst inquiries.
Identify efficiency opportunities and system improvements within Triage.
Foster an inclusive, high-performance environment and demonstrate leadership.
Ensure compliance with PCMLTFA obligations, including reporting designated persons and PEPs.
Ensure relevant information is obtained for system-generated alerts, including unusual transaction reports.
Investigate and assess client activity to identify potential AML/ATF cases.
Adjudicate alerts and manage documentation within the case system.
Support intake and QC functions during high volumes.

  • Transaction Monitoring (Quality Control)

Review alerts to ensure analysts maintain required competency levels and provide improvement opportunities.
Escalate quality issues and align with risk appetite and processes.
Provide recommendations on alert adjudication quality.
Develop tools and strategies for effective QC execution.
Assist QC Manager with reporting and recommendations.
Track QC reviews and updates in Oracle.

  • Enhanced Due Diligence (Level 2)

Provide expert AML support through QC reviews.
Conduct detailed analysis of complex cases aligned with client risk ratings.
Guide EDD teams on specific cases.
Develop industry intelligence to support AML investigations.
Assess PEPs and sanctions exposure.
Ensure timely case management and appropriate scope based on risk profile.
Maintain proper audit trails and documentation.
Prioritize information requests and escalate as needed.
Prepare and escalate PEP/sanction-related cases.
Collaborate with stakeholders to minimize risk.
Prepare management reports.

  • Enhanced Due Diligence (Sanctions)

Promote a client-focused culture.
Maintain strong knowledge of sanctions laws (e.g., OFAC, Canadian regulations).
Investigate potential sanctions violations and policy breaches.
Monitor trends to identify risk.
Escalate policy gaps and recommend solutions.
Apply sanctions controls and escalate to Global Sanctions Office when needed.
Report approved controls in systems like HotScan.
Ensure policy compliance across business units.
Raise awareness of sanctions issues among stakeholders.

  • Support AML regulatory compliance by:

Performing detailed risk analysis
Investigating unusual transaction patterns
Conducting PEP-related research
Escalating unusual transactions to GAMLU
Preparing sanction-related escalations
Identifying emerging AML, fraud, and credit risks

  • Enhanced Due Diligence (Quality Control)

Promote client-focused culture and quality standards.
Ensure effective EDD operations and adherence to controls.
Manage risk via QC processes and correction using checklists.
Evaluate analyst performance.
Complete QC reviews within productivity standards.
Stay updated on continuous improvements.
Leverage QC feedback to improve investigations.
Align actions with the Bank’s risk appetite and values.
Promote a high-performance, inclusive workplace.

  • Name Screening

Conduct Level 2 reviews and approvals of alerts.
Assist Managers in resolving escalations.
Escalate international banking alerts when necessary.
Ensure adherence to ACRM Alert Management procedures.
Suggest process improvements.
Assess complex AML/ATF risks.
Complete PEP classification and update Oracle records.
Approve low-risk PEP records and escalate as needed.
Confirm matches in Oracle and maintain evidence.
Support analyst training.
Send RFIs to centralized teams when needed.
Provide troubleshooting support to business lines.

Dimensions


Senior Analysts are part of the AML Operations Unit in Bogotá, delivering value and efficiency by managing high-volume alert workflows. They are expected to work independently with limited supervision, with guidance provided by the team leader.

 


Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Law, or related fields,
  • 2 years of relevant experience in financial institutions, compliance, or business areas.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to organize and present information clearly
  • Strong investigative and communication skills
  • Knowledge of banking products and processes
  • Understanding of AML/KYC regulations
  • Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, internet tools)
  • ACAMS/CAMS certification is an asset
  • Knowledge of AML/ATF legislation
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • English level advanced.


Working Conditions


Standard office environment. Regular and non-standard working hours may occur. Daily use of computer systems for communication with stakeholders. No travel required.
