Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the AML Operations Unit in Bogotá, Colombia by ensuring the execution of specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives in support of the team’s strategies and objectives. Ensures that all activities conducted comply with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.The Analyst will investigate and assess customer relationships to identify potential financial, reputational, operational, and/or compliance risks, as well as activities associated with money laundering or terrorist financing exposure.

Based on Global Operations needs and assignment, and within a customer-centric culture, the Analyst may support, for Canadian and/or International Banking, one or more of the following activities: Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), Name Screening, Transaction Monitoring, Demarket, Media Search, among others.

 

Accountabilities

  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations by ensuring the adequacy, adherence, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations related to operational risk, regulatory compliance, Anti-Money Laundering/Counter-Terrorist Financing (AML/CTF), and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, Global AML Handbook, and Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Investigate and analyze transactions and/or identify unusual patterns in international payment activity and/or trade finance activity by applying expert knowledge to assess operational and money laundering risk exposures.
  • Assist in ensuring that the Bank meets Anti-Money Laundering regulatory obligations to detect and report suspicious activities.
  • Prepare risk assessment reports or spreadsheets for management review, describing suspected money laundering typologies, scope of investigation, risk evaluation, and recommended remediation actions.
  • Perform in-depth analysis to support sound, accurate, and consistent risk assessments aligned with the assigned risk rating on each case.
  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s AML/CTF policies and procedures, as well as money laundering and terrorist financing regulations, industry best practices, criminal typologies, and emerging trends.
  • Support the mitigation of financial and reputational risks for the Bank.
  • Provide support to business line colleagues and respond promptly to requests and concerns from partners and stakeholders (including Security & Investigations and Shared Services) in the assessment and resolution of cases initiated by those groups or any other assigned tasks.
  • Support the Manager and/or Senior Manager in AML operations to mitigate risks associated with money laundering or terrorist financing.
  • Maintain expected productivity and quality standards as defined through performance metrics.
  • Prepare written risk assessment reports and case memoranda for executive review and/or internal and external audits, recommending remediation plans.
  • Stay up to date with current and emerging trends, typologies, and regulatory changes by participating in AML training sessions and leveraging industry resources.
  • Contribute to the development and/or identification of typologies based on significant cases.

Ensure that all case remediation actions are completed within established timelines

 

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Industrial Engineering, Law, or related fields, with a minimum of 6 months to 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent, within a financial institution, compliance, commercial, or retail banking environment.
  • Additional Requirements
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make logical and rational deductions, sometimes with limited information
  • Ability to gather, analyze, organize, document, and present information in a concise and structured manner
  • Proven fact-finding skills with a clear understanding of key issues and effective probing during relevant discussions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid understanding of corporate, commercial, and small business banking products, processes, policies, and practices
