The Staff AI Platform Engineer is responsible for the engineering execution and delivery of technology solutions that support Tangerine’s AI platform. This role ensures the timely delivery, quality, resiliency, and operational excellence of AI platform capabilities that support applications, processes and client journeys for Tangerine. The Staff AI Engineer partners closely with business and product leads to align on requirements and priorities, delivering technical solutions that support strategic business outcomes. Reporting to the Head, Data and AI Platforms, this role plays a key part in translating vision into executable plans and ensuring those plans are delivered with a high level of quality, stability, and stakeholder alignment.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Responsible for the successful engineering delivery of the Tangerine AI Platform in alignment with the desired outcomes. Focus is on the AI/ML/Agentic platform capabilities (MLOps/LLMOps pipelines, model training, deployment, monitoring, governance), collaboration across other teams to meet the strategic priorities, while maintaining stability, scalability, and high performance of critical platform capabilities and services
  • Partners with technology, risk, analytics and business teams, to deliver on the AI platform vision/strategy and create robust technical solutions that support a best in class AI platform
  • Deliver infrastructure and tooling for scalable model training and inference, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), context engineering, and intelligent agents
  • Executes on the strategic platform roadmap, as defined by the Technology and Business leadership team ensuring seamless transition from strategy to technical implementation, and fostering a continuous feedback loop with AI platform consumers (technology and business)
  • Leads delivery of engineering project initiatives, ensuring proper planning, execution, QA, deployment, and ongoing support
  • Champions a client-focused engineering culture across their team, prioritizing value delivery, customer experience, and the secure, compliant operation of the AI platform
  • Collaborates with the data platform team to manage data products, feature stores and other data sources optimized for ML/AI training, inference and agents
  • Collaborates with AI and Agentic Development team to ensure the Tangerine AI platform supports their success
  • Leads the design and implementation of Tangerine’s standard AI pipelines—real-time, batch, and hybrid
  • Drives engineering excellence by promoting best practices in coding, platform architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, test automation, and incident response
  • Ensures platform resilience and operational preparedness, guaranteeing application reliability through extensive monitoring, proactive issue detection, and detailed root cause analysis for incidents
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits.  Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams
  • Mentors junior and intermediate engineers and contributes to technical leadership forums to foster a culture of excellence

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have: Required Qualifications: 

  • University degree in Computer Engineering / Computer Science / Technology, or relevant work experience
  • 8+ years of Software/Data/ML/AI Engineering experience
  • 2+ years of technology leadership experience, e.g. as a Senior/Staff Engineer
  • Significant experience delivering complex, high-availability ML/AI platforms at scale.
  • Hands on experience with Machine Learning, Generative AI, Agentic AI, RAG pipelines, and feature stores.
  • Deep experience with cloud native AI/ML stacks (GCP/Azure/AWS), container orchestration (Kubernetes) and modern AI platforms
  • Knowledge of AI governance, compliance, security and reliability best practices
