The Risk Management mandate is to provide oversight, monitoring and reporting of all operational, credit and market risks, including fraud exposures on an enterprise-wide basis. It is comprised of four well-defined functions: Operational Risk Management, Retail Credit Risk Management, Wholesale Credit Risk Management and Market Risk Management. The Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Portfolio Oversight, Credit Risk is accountable for monitoring the various credit portfolios at Tangerine to ensure we are staying within risk appetite.  This role is also responsible for managing our strategic roadmap within credit risk. The Senior Manager will report directly to the Director, Retail Credit Risk. Primary elements include: ownership of the deck for the monthly Local Risk Credit Committee, creation of new reports to enhance the oversight of the portfolio such as early warning reporting, ownership of the credit risk roadmap, and representing the team on large strategic projects. 

  

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Provide Credit Risk leadership and execution expertise with particular focus on the Credit Card program, working with stakeholders across Tangerine and Bank of Nova Scotia Risk teams, Product, Marketing, frontline operations and vendors. 

  • Develop a reporting framework to ensure continued portfolio health moving forward 

  • Lead reporting and ongoing enhancement of credit policy and risk strategy to drive organic business growth and loss mitigation plans with balanced risk/reward trade-off. 

  • Manage portfolio loss results to acceptable levels, while supporting business profitability objectives, regulatory requirements and Tangerine’s client centric business mission. 

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to foster a strong risk discipline environment. 

  • Collaborate with Acquisition risk and Operations risk teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. 

  • Lead and support the development and implementation of credit risk and loss mitigation plans and provide insight to business leaders through ad hoc requests, projects and initiatives. 

  • Bring a sense of urgency in driving initiatives through to the finish line 

  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the Regulatory Compliance Framework including the Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing and Sanctions Policy and all AML related policies, procedures and controls within the department. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • University Degree in business or equivalent 

  • Minimum 10 years of financial services experience, with particular focus and emphasis on Credit Risk 

  • Proven leadership in operational function support, system and project implementation and vendor management 

  • Proven leadership in the establishment of procedure structure, policies and/or programs within a business or function 

  • Strong capability to work with senior business leaders 

  • Strong ability to lead cross functional teams and collaborate effectively in high pressure environment 

  • Strong presentation and “story-telling” skills 

  • Aptitude for innovation and readiness to “roll up sleeves” and do what is necessary to deliver on business objectives 

  • Excellent leadership and communication  

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 

  • Strong attention to detail 

  • Strong change management and people development skills
