Reporting to the Director, FP&A, the Senior Manager, IT Finance plays a critical role in Tangerine’s technology team, providing insightful and timely management reporting and supporting analysis to aid management decisions. The Senior Manager, IT Finance, will be responsible for delivering trusted and strategic expense insights, while continuously improving and initiating positive changes across people, processes and technology. The incumbent is expected to work with business partners throughout the Bank as well as within the Finance team. The Senior Manager will report directly to the Director, FP&A.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Support Director, FP&A and CFO in financial analysis and management reporting for the IT portfolio
  • Drive the IT annual operating plan cycle including target setting, guideline creation, and producing presentations for IT senior leadership. Lead the budgeting and planning exercise within IT department to capture the itemized details of the operational spend.
  • Lead the IT Finance team to prepare and manage monthly and quarterly forecasts with accruals for operating spend and projects. This includes working closely with IT leaders to understand their requirements and consolidating at the total IT level. The Finance team also reports on and presents any variances and corrective measures to senior management within IT and Finance.
  • Collaborate within FP&A teams (Expense Management, Projects, P&L consolidation), Financial Accounting & Operations to ensure accurate financial close and timely reporting
  • Provide sign off on the accuracy of the monthly opex spend for IT and ensure that all the costs are accounted for.
  • Analyze monthly financial reports for IT leaders by providing variance commentary for prior period and variance to plan/forecast, preparing reports and presenting findings/recommendations.
  • Provide financial advice on IT Keep the Lights On (‘KTLO’) projects and ensure project spend is on track and within budget. Review the capital and operational spend on monthly basis for IT projects
  • Update IT Management Team on funding availability and highlight any risks and/or opportunities to help aid budget targets.
  • Manage hiring requests for IT and obtain relevant approvals. Work closely with Senior Manager, Expense Management on technology FTEs for the purpose of forecasting
  • Oversee the invoice processing and time sheets for IT teams. Manage the invoices processes are done on a timely basis. Oversee the time tracking tool, review the hours reported by FTE and contractors for accuracy of charging it to correct project codes.
  • Review and approve the FTE hours spent on capitalized activities and provide sign off to re-class the cost to business projects.
  • Annually review all the IT fixed assets and software to assess if any items are impaired under IFRS standards.
  • Assist and participate with internal audits when required.
  • Responsible for educating IT functional managers on financial controls as it pertains to IT.
  • Manages a team of analysts and creates an environment for them to be able to execute their deliverables in compliance with day-to-day business controls and internal policies and procedures. Provides coaching to the team in order to set them up for success in their respective areas.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We’d love to work with you if you have:   

  • University or College Degree or equivalent experience
  • A recognized accounting designation (e.g. CPA) is a must
  • 5-7+ years of related experience in accounting, budgeting, financial planning and analysis with previous experience supporting the IT function
  • Ability to step out of the details, think critically, challenge the status quo and bring new perspectives to the team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate, negotiate, and influence effectively, coupled with excellent relationship management skills
  • Results-oriented, able to manage expectations, work under tight deadlines, and handle competing priorities with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex financial topics to non-expert peers within the company
  • Solid analytical and technical capability, able to assimilate and summarize large amounts of information from multiple sources for senior management
  • Experience in using financial software such as Coupa, SmartView and Oracle OBI is an asset
  • Experience using Power BI is desirable
