The role :

 

The Senior Manager is responsible for performing a key control function for ensuring accurate reconciliation of all balance sheet and P&L accounts and compliance with the Bank’s accounting policies and IFRS guidelines. In addition to these responsibilities, he/she will be leading the Finance Transformation Project to completion. 


The Senior Manager understands the source, processes impacting deposits, loans, securities, mortgages, securitization and credit card. This role ensures the balance sheet and P&L accounts are appropriately reconciled and analyzed; issues are promptly identified and resolved. The role is also responsible for managing changes to reconciliations based on system, process, policy and IFRS guideline changes and is  required to lead in all projects which impacts GL accounts to ensure adequate controls are in place in systems and processes are complying with required accounting policies and guidelines.  

 

The Senior Manager leads the team of finance analysts ensuring appropriate cross-training and procedural documentation exists to support the on-going operation and provides training for staff.  The ability to manage project milestones, meet tight month-end deadlines and multi-task is imperative to the success of this position.


This is a two-year contract assignment within Tangerine Finance.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Oversee and ensures appropriate analysis are completed for all accounts and outstanding items are promptly investigated and addressed
  • Report on period-over-period variances for all general ledger accounts
  • Evaluate the recorded journal entries to ensure compliance with IFRS standards and the Bank’s accounting policies.
  • Ensure completion of Reconciliation of complex general ledger accounts related to the Bank’s operational activities (i.e. payroll, fixed assets, stock-based compensation, leases, foreign currency accounting etc.) and
  • Ensure timely identification and resolution of all reconciling items.
  • Ensure completions of Reconciliation for the complex general ledger accounts related to the Bank’s product offerings (i.e. mortgages, securities, mutual funds, overdraft account, deposits, and credit cards) and
  • Ensure timely identification and resolution of all reconciling items.
  • Oversee the completion of daily, monthly review process of analysis, reconciliations, continuity schedules and timely resolution of complex issues and sign off of month end and daily review packages.
  • Collaborate and Co-ordinate activities with external vendors and other departments to strengthen processes and to design and implement improvements.
  • Responsible to ensure financial controls are in place and operating effectively and efficiently
  • Manage staff performance, development and goal achievement
  • Ensure on-going operation through cross-training, succession planning and documentation/ updating of procedures
  • Manage changes in processes and products proactively
  • Lead assigned projects
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the Regulatory Compliance Framework including the Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing and Sanctions Policy and all AML related policies, procedures and controls within the department. Other duties as assigned.

 

Additional Responsibilities in relation to the Finance Transformation and Sustainment include:

 

1/ Finance Transformation:

  • Act as the primary stakeholder and liaison in leading the Finance Transformation project.
  • Ensure finance project milestones are completed in alignment with committed dates
  • Implement tactical solutions to close gaps identified as part of project alignment process
  • Work with Technology to prioritize and implement backlogged initiatives
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic solutions
  • Lead and manage the finance transformation team


2/Sustainment:

  • Maintain awareness and understanding of all Finance Transformation objectives.
  • Assist business unit management in understanding and managing in current and future state.
  • Identify efficiencies and propose resolutions.
  • Ensure business unit procedures are accurate and up to date.
  • Provide guidance and support to resolve finance issues/questions raised by business unit personnel and liaise with partners across.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have: 

 

  • University or College Degree in Accounting.
  • Completion of Canadian Securities Course or related experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of related managerial experience in financial services with at least 3 years specializing in reconciliations.
  • Minimum 5 years of financial industry experience is required.
  • Experience working with mortgages, retail deposits, Mutual fund, overdraft account and credit card products.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Completion of an Accounting designation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Good computer skills and strong systems understanding.
  • Strong knowledge of finance and full range of financial products.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills are required to deal with daily situations that are broadly defined. 
  • Demonstrated experience in the managing of people and processes with strong inter-personal skills and the ability to work effectively and diplomatically in dealing with peers and across organizational lines.
  • Familiarity with current regulatory reporting requirements and “best practices”, and the direction in which regulatory bodies and disclosure requirements are heading.
  • Sound PC skills and knowledge of data management software are required. The complex production of the reporting requires well-developed systems skills and a thorough knowledge of the Bank’s product application systems and financial reporting systems.
  • Strong ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to have a heightened awareness and adherence to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
