What you will be doing:
The Manager, Expense Management plays a key role in the FP&A team, responsible for the accuracy and reliability of budget, forecasts and all management accounting reporting on total bank operating expenses, FTEs and project related spend (capital expenditure and non-capex spend). The Manager plays a key role in supporting the planning and forecasting processes at Tangerine and has the responsibility for accurate expense reporting. The Manager will also spearhead automation and transformation within the expense management team. The Manager will report directly to the Senior Manager, Expense Management
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Management Reporting
- Support the Senior Manager, Expense Management in the consolidation of total bank expenses, analyze variances and work closely with business to understand material variances
- Prepare monthly operating results and perform variance analysis
- Perform reasonableness tests, conduct in-depth analysis and work closely with business to understand expense variances and impact to plan/ forecast
- Provide clear commentaries on variances and highlight any risks/opportunities
- Play a key supporting role to Canadian Banking Finance for timely consolidation of Business Line financial results. Provide clear variance commentaries against Plan and Forecast
- Develop/maintain and provide a product view of the Bank’s expenses to report the profitability of the bank’s products
- Perform reconciliation of reports to ensure accurate and complete management reporting
- Respond in a timely manner on requests and queries from Canadian Banking Finance
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Support the delivery of annual plan and monthly forecast
- Co-ordinate and communicate timelines for inputs from teams. Ensure timely collection of data and perform reviews to ensure completeness and accuracy of total bank’s expenses
- Collaborate closely with teams to understand expense drivers and provide commentaries on Plan and forecast. Challenge teams when required
- Support end-to-end plan and forecast process including producing reports required by Canadian Banking Finance and Tangerine
- Reviews direct and support allocations and work with Canadian Banking Finance to understand drivers
- Collaborate within FP&A teams (IT Finance, Projects, P&L consolidation), Product Finance and Financial Accounting & Operations to ensure accurate financial close and timely reporting
- Identify any risks and/ or opportunities and recommend actions for business partners
- Liaise between Tangerine Finance and Canadian Banking Finance regarding issues related to budgeting and cost allocation
- Play an integral role in FP&A transformation activities and support ad-hoc projects
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Accounting designation with over 5 years of experience in progressive FP&A/ finance roles
- University degree in business, finance or equivalent
- Must have: Advanced excel skills, Power Point/ Think cell
- Nice to have: Working knowledge of Python, Power BI, Anaplan, Alteryx is an asset
- Good understanding of financial planning processes (required)
- Cost allocation methodology within retail business environment through previous working experience in financial institution is an asset (but not required)
- Strong communication skills (listening, documentation and presentation skills); ability to work effectively in a team environment with peers and superiors across organization lines
- Results-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities and work under extremely tight deadlines to deliver a high-quality output
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
- Strong collaborator with business groups at all levels of the organization
- A superior understanding of elements of effective control over integrity and completeness of financial reporting; attention to details.
