The AI and Data Science team will contribute to enabling a data-driven decision-making culture across all lines of business through application of predictive and prescriptive analytics.
The AI and Data Science team within Tangerine Analytics supports the revenue and volume growth for each of the product business line (including lending products such as Mortgages, Lines of Credit, Credit Cards, Loans and Deposits such as Savings Accounts and GICs) through providing advanced analytical solutions, and influences Tangerine’s strategic decisions on customer targeting and pricing (rates / fees) initiatives.
What you will be doing:
As the Manager, AI & Data Science, you will be responsible for the design and development of a suite of mathematical, statistical and predictive models to price, acquire, grow and retain Tangerine customers. These models are used by business lines to optimize our value propositions and grow customer value. You will also identify new data acquisition opportunities, and monitor/manage the performance of the existing suit of models through their lifecycle.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Design and build optimization and predictive models, such as: product pricing models, product usage models, product and customer acquisition/attrition models, and customer/product future value modelling. Ensure that the Bank's investment in statistical models is maintained through the development of model performance tracking systems.
- Support product initiatives by identifying and building new models to support pricing analytics. Ensure that campaign and origination processes appropriately leverage the existing models and identify opportunities to develop new models where necessary.
- Expand the Bank's competency in AI/ML practice by identifying industry best practices and staying current on emerging trends in the field. Develop a framework, processes and procedures to ensure that model development is efficient and conducted in a timely fashion.
- Identify data gaps with respect to predicting customer behavior within the overall data environment and support projects to acquire such information.
- Collaborate and ensure pricing alignment with Tangerine’s Product Economics team.

Education/Experience
- You have an analytical background (Applied Math, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science). A Masters or PhD in a STEM or STEM-related discipline would be beneficial.
- You have strong theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of statistical analysis and data science and experience with machine learning algorithms
Technical Skills
- Experience with programming languages such as Python and SQL (Java or other programming languages would also be an asset).
- Strong knowledge of Machine learning and statistical learning algorithms.
- Familiarity with cloud compute environments and DevOps practices.
- Excellent analytical skills. Must be able to interpret and consolidate large amounts of information in actionable recommendations. Uses sound judgment in the creation of the work plan, analysis, validation, interpretation and presentation of findings.
- Excellent knowledge of statistical model development, such as acquisition and usage models, time series analysis.
- Experience cleaning, managing and visualizing data (structured and unstructured)
- Excellent communication skills. Must be able to translate complex technical information to non-technical audience
- Strong knowledge of financial services products and features. Working knowledge of retail banking product profitability and credit risk.
