The role:

 

Reporting to the Vice President, CFO, this role plays a critical leadership role in supporting Tangerine’s strategic agenda and next phase of growth. The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis is responsible for delivering high quality financial insight, planning discipline, and governance across the Bank, while acting as a trusted finance partner to senior leaders.

 

Key responsibilities include leading enterprise wide financial planning and forecasting processes, providing transparent and insightful management reporting, overseeing expense management and project financial governance, and supporting executive decision making through rigorous analysis and recommendations.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Build and sustain strong, trusted relationships with senior business line leaders to enable delivery of strategic objectives through value added financial insights, challenge, and advice.
  • Lead and oversee Tangerine’s quarterly forecasting, annual planning, and five year outlook processes. Develop and monitor financial performance metrics and KPIs aligned to Bank strategic goals and OKRs.
  • Lead the production and continuous improvement of monthly and quarterly management reporting (MMRs / QMRs), Monthly Performance Connect (MPC) reporting, Board materials, and executive presentations. Ensure reporting is accurate, relevant, and tailored to stakeholder needs, with strong data integrity and governance.
  • Lead and oversee the Bank’s expense management processes and policies, including planning, forecasting, variance analysis, and adherence to Bank expense guidelines. Drive cost discipline and identify opportunities for efficiency and savings.
  • Oversee the financial governance framework for Tangerine’s project portfolio (including Project Clarity). Provide effective financial oversight, challenge assumptions, and ensure benefits tracking commitments are robust and achievable.
  • Review and challenge business cases and investment proposals, providing value added analysis and recommendations. Identify opportunities to optimize returns, manage costs, and improve capital and expense efficiency across the Bank.
  • Partner closely with Product, Technology, Client, Marketing, and Operations teams to deliver transparent financial insights, including regular product segment P&L reporting. Analyze results and recommend actions to drive revenue growth, cost reduction, or both.
  • Report monthly and quarterly financial results to Canadian Banking, including clear variance analysis. 
  • Provide ad hoc financial information and analysis to Investor Relations as required.
  • Incorporate the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture into day to day decision making. Ensure strong business controls and compliance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, Global Sales Principles, and regulatory requirements, including operational, compliance, AML/ATF, sanctions, and conduct risk.
  • Build and lead a high performance, inclusive team culture. Implement a people strategy that attracts, develops, and retains top talent through coaching, succession planning, and ongoing development.
  • Provide timely, high quality financial analysis and decision support to senior leadership as required.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We’d love to work with you if you have:   

 

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent professional designation is required.
  • 10–12 years of progressive experience in finance or a related field, including a minimum of 5 years in senior people leadership roles. 
  • Demonstrated experience operating at the enterprise level within a complex, regulated organization; banking or financial services experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in dynamic work environment in strong collaboration with stakeholders and team members.
  • Deep expertise in financial planning, forecasting, expense management, and project financial governance. 
  • Strong financial modelling, analytics, and problem solving capabilities, with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Proven ability to distill large volumes of information into compelling, transparent, and decision oriented reporting for senior executives and Boards. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with confidence
  • presenting to executive level stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and inspire high performing teams in dynamic environments. Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of influencing senior leaders, leading change, and fostering collaboration across diverse business functions.
  • Strong understanding of banking products, services, and cost drivers. 
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and consistently deliver high quality outcomes under tight timelines.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial analysis, data visualization, and executive presentation tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint).
